I'm playing an incredibly scuffed playthrough of HeartGold. I caught an Onix and Slowpoke I plan on adding to my team as Steelix and Slowking, but can't be bothered to train them to match my starter. So I had the bright idea to trade them to Platinum, where I could send up cloned Pokemon from Emerald holding rare candies and TMs, and then train them and send them back. But then I realized I wanted more TMs to complete my TM collection in Platinum anyway, and figured if I'm sending up mons I might as well send up 20 star pieces to trade for shards for the move tutors too, but my Emerald didn't have any star pieces and I couldn't find any at the listed locations, so I found one in FireRed and traded it to Emerald to clone, then prepared to send them all up.

But when I tried setting my time forwards and syncing with FireRed to bypass the limit on Emerald I got hit with the 24 hour limit, so I waited a day and tried again. Except it didn't work, so I looked more into it and apparently I have to resync the time with Emerald before it'll work again, so I had to wait another day.

In the meantime I grinded out about 2 million Poke in Route 212 to pay for the TMs I wanted from the Veilstone Game Corner and the Resort Area furniture, got called out by Dawn as a TM collector, then learned I need to grind out the Elite Four ten times, play one round in every Battle Frontier facility, and win a silver print to buy the last missing furniture. I'll do that later.

So now I'm just at work with my Togepi from HeartGold in my Pokewalker. So many plans, cockblocked by time.

Finished the first part of Alpha Sapphire for the first time as I mostly skipped the 3DS pokemon games. I really enjoyed it, far more than I thought I would. Now there's something about a meteor and a girl stealing mega stones so we'll see what that's about I guess. Swampert, Breloom, Skarmory, Probopass (popped into the entrance to new mauville with a rare candy as soon as i got surf), Mightyena, and Linoon were all good team members who I picked up early and never dropped. Gonna catch the Regis in Premier balls because they deserve style.
Also blasted through VC Crystal for Celebi which was fun. Kadabra with elemental punches did most of the heavy lifting since I was in a rush. Cool dude, gonna transfer him up so he can mega evolve in ZA.
Gonna dust off the GameCube and do Colosseum next, it'd be neat to bring up purified pokemon to modern games.

Not sure if you’re playing blind or not but don’t waste time trying to figure out Regigigas’ puzzle on your own. You’re not going to get it and it will only make you mad if you waste a lot of time on it before eventually caving in and looking it up.

I am re-trying Pokemon Clover to beat it, bounced off it before but if the music and some humorous beats are worth it, I'll stick to it.

My bigger issue is I want to play with some legendaries I haven't used before, but fewer romhacks/fangames actually HAVE newer generations in general. You could say "won't you be overpowered with legends" which is what I thought until I played Gaia with a Ho-oh, Rayquaza, shaymin, virizion and bad early moves with overlapping weaknesses showed me way otherwise.

Finished a Scarlet playthrough a while ago, decided to dip my toes in casual doubles while I have all the resources and dont have to grind anything.
Made a team based around prankster sableye with skill swap.
Swapping prankster onto a toedscruel for priority spore, swapping intimidate off an overquill to double it and give oq priority destiny bond, resetting the weather by swapping onto koraidon. It's a pretty gimmicky but reasonably fun.
Getting tired of matching up against teams overflowing with legendaries though.

Regulation I and J(soon) are what's currently being played buddy. Double restricted means you should probably make a team with them and try your priority spore as support.

I'm definitely taking my fair share of games with it so far. Some teams just have 0 answer for priority spore, I've caught more than a few legendaries with priority destiny bond and skill swapping into oq as it switches in for double activation intimidate is good. Sableye has helping hand so it still does stuff even without prankster.
Koraidon and Terrapagos are the muscle on the team and the only really terrible common matchup I get is zamazenta who I cant slow down with intimidates. Need to get a hard read with terra fire koraidon to kill them or destiny bond.
Any other skill swap gimmick ideas i could squeze in? I have a farigiraf for for trick room but I barely ever bring it.

I started one year ago together with my brother (he's on Soulsilver) and we wanted to batlte each other at certain landmarks in the story. We wanted to fight each other after finishing the story with all our pokes at Level 55 but it seems he stopped caring.

I was going to have a “similar strength” setting randomized nuzlocke of the original Blue version for a slight challenge and change of pace, but I rolled an Ekans on route 1 and started with a Nidoran… the game’s been a complete snooze for several gyms now because the stupid snake is unstoppable and the rest of my team is just as (if not more) competent. Poliwag, Nidoran M, Pidgey, Charmander, Ekans, Clefairy. Meanwhile the trainers got really shafted in the randomizer, so all the Viridian Forest trainers got Kakunas that couldn’t attack and Brock’s gym was filled with Rattatas. Yay, challenge.

It has a very interesting mix of alternate history fanfiction and unique gameplay that drew me in, and enough challenge to be engaging while being easy enough to beat so long as you pay attention and use your brain. Just got max trainer card in Black 2, on cartridge of course. It was a fun journey, took me about 180 hours ingame (my file shows a lot more because I forgot sleep mode doesn't work the way it would with a 3DS game, mine actually shows closer to 220 hours, oops). The main body of the playthrough was great, I used a different team for mainstory and postgame, tried a lot of mons I'd never used before. Definitely found a newfound appreciation for BW2, I always liked it but the forced Pokestar Studios tutorial always killed my drive during playthroughs, I really got into this playthrough and made it my definitive Gen 5 file by the end of it. Some thoughts on the stars/trainer card rank criteria in this one:
-Beat Elite Four: Free Space
-Finish Pokedex: Way easier than I thought it'd be, considering it's 649 before taking out the non-required mythicals. I have Diamond/HGSS/BW1 and BW2 carts to work with so between mass transferring spares I had and evolving, breeding and catching the rest, while it still took a lot of time I'd say it only measured up to 1/3rd of all the time I spent. The DNS exploit to keep access to GTS in Gen 4+5 was a godsend, there were a few mons I just don't have access to on those files (multiple Gen 4 starters since I don't wanna newgame my 600hour childhood Diamond file, Glameow of all things, and the genies for the same reason).
-Pokestar Studios: Despite what I said, I fell in love with this mode while going through all the movies. Messed around with most of them and would find a few of the strange-endings on my own, it was a blast. It's a shame the cracks of GF being retards showed so early, the 15~ minute forced tutorial around it is such a gay roadblock, even if it's not that much time in reality + you could buttonmash/ignore text to make it go faster.

2/2:
-PWT/World Championship: Ton of fun, I'm not gonna act like I took the time to fully EV train or IV breed up a perfect team, but my core of Excadrill/TTar/Hydreigon/Amoonguss ran shop. Once in a while I'd run into a rotation that'd really fuck my shit up (usually a Water and Grass team in the same rotation) but I just powered through and it all worked out. Way more forgiving than other facilities in return for a bit more difficulty in the individual battles. Worth mentioning I did the game on challenge mode but that's something of a meme if you're familiar with BW2.
-Get both Entree levels to 30+: This shit was actually really annoying, I finished the Pokedex before resolving to get Entree done. Again, hourwise it wasn't that bad, but if I wanted to hit the double point bonus every time to get it done asap, it was a ton of rapid-button pressing on two 3DS simultaneously, I broke it down into 30min intervals at max, felt like I was accelerating my odds of carpal tunnel by playing it efficiently. It's a really random thing to make worthy of a trainer star considering how the game never pushes you to check out Entralink, but I'll just be thankful it wasn't a Battle Subway star.

10/10 would play again, thank you for reading my blog. For anyone curious the teams were:
Main story: Excadrill, Emolga, Jellicent, Roserade, Heracross, Darmanitan
Postgame: Metagross, Rotom-Heat, Seismitoad, Hydreigon, Toxicroak and HA Amoonguss.
Bonus PWT member: Tyranitar so I could build around sand. Amoonguss Excadrill ended up being MVPs letting me get to 3x Swords Dance in the sand via Rage Powders to Rock Slide Wallace down, a single hit would've dealt with 'drill, felt amazing.

Languishing in my personal purgatory AKA Platinum Battle Frontier. I have the gold prints in Tower and Factory, currently working on Arcade. Rolling with Magnezone, Gyarados, and recently swapped out Infernape to test Weavile since I was tired of losing to one specific Alakazam. Just lost my streak to another speedy Psychic in Starmie, which landed its Hydro Pump + critical hit on 'Zone to one-shot it. Weavile should've theoretically handled it, but I hit the enemy-team-level-up tile and it must've been Timid since it outsped and also Pump'd Weavile for another one-shot (no crit). That one I bred for perfect Attack and Speed but is clearly lacking in HP and/or Sp. Def, still think I lost a damage roll there. And of course, it hit a raw Thunder to KO Gyarados and kill my streak. I like the Electric/Flying synergy with Zone and Gyarados, but might need to try Jolteon instead just to never lose to Surf/Pump crits by virtue of being faster than all of the shitty Waters. Also need to get much better at hitting the right tiles in the later rounds.

As long as you can access wifi and use GTS for trades, you can shortcut a lot. Otherwise you're gonna theoretically need HGSS, D/P (Platinum should be entirely optional) and B1/W1. If you're starting completely fresh you'll be annoyed by: Gen 1 starters (one per HGSS file after getting all 16 badges), Gen 3 starters (same deal), Tornadus/Thunderus/Landorus (1 per BW1 file and gotta have the former two together to make Lando spawn), Kyogre/Groudon/Rayquaza (one of each former in HGSS and gotta have them together for Ray a la the Landorus thing). An unassisted BW2 copy actually has a pretty absurd amount of Pokemon for the time, between everything in the post game you can get something like 446/649 solo.

People would call my post bait, but okay.
Basically I'm kinda struggling to find an official Pokemon game that I like, I feel like they've all been timewasters.
Growing up I would've been a Gen 4/5 kid, but I thought i was too good for it lol, so only got into the series by chance when my mom found a loose Pokemon X cart on the floor at her job. I played it and later ORAS and Sun/Moon, but while I found those to be real slow and plodding (and never picked up Gen8-onwards), I dunno, I feel like in X I'm able to just get into the gameplay much faster. Yah it's got too many tutorials and its piss easy, but I guess the text is faster to skip? Idk. But of course it's held back by its lack of content. Gen7 especially feels like it takes control away from me for way longer.

I went back to try Heartgold by recommendation, and it was okay, but everything was too slow. Even saving was slow. It was really boring, so I eventually moved onto other games, which makes me sad to say.

I've been playing Prism lately, it's my first unofficial game and I've been having a really good time with that. I feel it's all been moving at a good pace, for me. Maybe I should try the Shin Gen1 and Perfect Crystal hacks later(?)

Would I enjoy the Gen 3, 5, or Gamecube games, or would they also be too slow for my standards? Or, are there any optimization hacks for Gen 4 that speed up the games a bit? I play my DS games on real hardware, but I do have a flashcart...

Claydol fuckin' sucks man, slow as shit with no real offensive utility and very little durability in spite of the defensive stats I put into him because I could see going in that he wasn't going to do shit beyond tanking a few hits during swapouts. I wanted psychic type coverage from something but hated all the other psychic types in gen V and figured I'd try something slow for once instead of just running 6 sweepers like usual.
I'm literally about to walk into the E4 and I'm certain I have the stats to blow through everyone first try in spite of a dead weight mon but it's the principle of it that's killed my interest in the run.

Other than that, replaying colosseum and just testing shit to see what happens if you do something wrong or unexpected. Some neat ones so far: lying about Wes's past with Snagem gets you caught in the lie but continues the conversation rather than requiring you to say yes, failing to snag makuhita gets you a disappointed but hopeful dialogue from Rui, and trying to cut Venus off by entering the far side of the subway plays out the same as chasing her through the near side except she's outside the other door to match where you exited.

I started a new save file of Violet. I'm trying to avoid fucking around too much and mostly just go from objective to objective while fighting every trainer I see on my way. It's actually pretty tough this way, I'm slightly underleveled. Really just shows that getting EXP for catching mons is the main problem with getting overleveled, not the EXP share itself.
I love SVs story. While the Team Star shit has a stupid conclusion with all the nonsense about the former director, I have newfound fondness for that storyline because the admins themselves are all really fun characters.

I think the way Gamefreak incorporated the box legends into HGSS is really half-baked. Neither one is particularly relevant to the main game, and you're forced to go deal with your box's legend after you beat Clair, Ethan/Lyra won't let you venture to Route 27 until you do. And even despite that you need both the Rainbow Wing and the Clear Bell (plus the Kimono Girls' dance) to summon Ho-Oh, and the Silver Wing and the new Tidal Bell (and their dance) to summon Lugia.

But like, why? The Clear Bell was an artifact relating to Suicune, not Ho-Oh, and here Suicune instead chases you through Kanto until fighting you near Bill's House on the Cerulean Cape, not at the Tin Tower. Plus the other Wing will still summon the other box legend without needing all those extra steps. It just feels like a forced way to involve Ho-Oh and Lugia instead of anything more sensible, like say Team Rocket's wacko radio broadcasts from the Goldenrod Radio Tower both awoke and angered the box legend and it attacked the Radio Tower after you defeat Archer, and all those extra steps are meant to calm the agitated Pokemon down.

Though really I think Crystal did it best. You get the Clear Bell, letting Suicune know you're finally worthy of battling it, and only after catching all three legendary beasts do the monks at the Tin Tower acknowledge you as worthy and hand over the Rainbow Wing, letting you catch Ho-Oh on top of the tower.

Well, whatever I guess.

I wish that the scenes the characters mentioned were actually shown, even if only in flashback sequences. Starfall Street has a lot of tell-not-show, which isn't really a good way of storytelling. But what's funny about that is the flashback scenes with the admins takes place out in the overworld with a forced camera and filters applied, so if you're in a Union Circle other players can jump into the flashback cutscene too if they know where it's taking place.

No, it was a way to force Lugia's greater involvement in the plot. Game Freak didn't design Lugia, but were forced to adapt it to their game in Gen 2. That was their effort at legitimising the thing (its only other availability was in non-canon Gen 3 spin offs or severely limited distribution events for the core games), by actually treating it as the other half of the box legend pair, instead of being shoved in a corner of the region map and largely ignored.
Anonymous No.58116695

Yeah, the whole "we were totally bullied bro I tell you just trust me bro it totally happened we just can't show you and everyone else forgot about it" stuff makes the story so much weaker. And they don't even tell you HOW they were bullied, just kinda "they were mean to us".

I mean you also don't see Arven as a child being neglected, but it's definitely super believable from the way he acts, and the fact that his parent straight up died makes it have an impact even though the things that happened to him are just implied from things he told you.
And I didn't know the stuff about union cicle, kek. What a weird feature.
Anonymous No.58116706

Yeah but what I'm saying is that even despite that both legendaries are STILL shoved in a corner of the region map and largely ignored. You're just arbitrarily forced after Blackthorn to go fight one for no real reason. It's just weird that this is how Gamefreak decided to include them in the remakes' plot when both the Hoenn and Sinnoh games did a way better job of including their box legends, so it's not like they were unfamiliar with how to do it right.

There, christ. Took three times to clear. First time Lance's Charizard walled me, between Shadow Claw, Fire Fang, and Air Slash I was either 2HKO'd or flinchlocked into oblivion. Second time I accidentally let Karen's Houndoom set up and it swept me. Then I got annoyed and transferred over a Trick Room TM to teach to Slowking (my original intention all along), and went at it again. Houndoom and Charizard folded, and between tanking Outrages with Steelix and a faster Ice Punch with Feraligatr Lance finally went down.
