New Zealand. I'd call it Pokemon North and South. Based on which version you play, you start on either the North or South island and unlock the other in post-game. There would also be a co-op feature that lets you play with a friend on the opposite island for doubles shenanigans and catching different mons, as well as experiencing their version of events and Gym Leaders.

Mali, because they have some cool history stuff, a pretty wide range of ecosystems (no oceans, FUCK the oceans), a lot of cultural designs for archetecture and clothing that would be new to the series, it'll force chuds to be exposed to black people, and no one from the country itself will ever play the game and get upset about misrepresentation of the area when we end up doing fun things with it

Though if it was just the direction for GF to take then probably Germany, Russia, America or Japan.
GameFreak has proven that making surface level links to the UK, France, Hawaii, Portugal all lead to lame games.

For a long time now my region would be the Great Lakes region in North America. I basically try to find good fakemon designs that fit here and form a cohesive feeling to the region.
If I ever finish it the next region will be the Great Lakes region in Africa.

Knowing a little about Mali (basically just hearing about it from afrocentrists on the internet) makes you go "Wow Wakanda was real".
Actually looking it up however makes you realize it was the most overrated "empire" in history and makes you further disrespect Africa.

If I wanted to keep my investors and the Japanese market happy, Italy, or Germany.

For the largest Asian market, I would base the region entirely on China, although I would lose the rest of the international market—basically, an exclusive region for that market—it would still be profitable.

If I wanted the money of the American left, California, and make it "Tumblr the region". If I wanted the money of conservative America, I don't know, Alabama or Texas? Personally, I'd prefer to base it on the entire Yellowstone National Park.

And if I wanted to surprise an international audience, it would be Nuclear Wasteland Australia, making it the weirdest and craziest region of all, making it a survival game, with mechanics of hunger, dehydration, heat exhaustion, illness, injuries, and more for both your character and your team. You could be devoured by giant sand whales, touch a plant that's actually a poisonous lizard, die from swimming in water full of Pokemon amoebas, be attacked by poachers, be hunted by aliens, have colossal bosses appear out of nowhere, lose your stuff and all your progress, start naked and beaten from scratch.

The fans would probably hate it, and it would be a financial failure, but I'd be happy to have created something different for the series.

Ideas for new Pokémon
- Red bellied black snake
- Inland Taipan
- Carpet python
- Regional Bird is either a cockatoo, galah, magpie, or a rainbow lorikeet, there'd actually be an ingame debate about which one should represent the region. There's also an ibis (bin chicken) that no one cares about.
- Kiwi Pokémon that hints at a neighboring New Zealand region. It evolves into either an emu (really bulky) or a cassowary (fast and murderous). This is due to the kiwi being an evolutionary relative of the emu and cassowary irl.
- Two new croc mons, one based on the Saltwater Crocodile and the other based on a Freshwater Crocodile.
- Brushtail Possum as the regional rodent.
- Another Koala mon based on the drop bear myth. It drops rocks on unsuspecting passerby, if it's out of rocks, it drops itself.
- An actual fucking kangaroo
- Boomerang objectmon
- At least onevlizard mon
- a few different bugs, most of which being spiders such as the huntsman, red-back and funnel web.
