it's one of the most obvious choices for a mon that would get a mega and not an evo so it's not surprising, and the description makes its design sound completely uninspired so it's not exciting. i feel like anyone with their expectations reasonably in check knew it was gonna happen, there's not really anything to say until we see it in action.

eviolite skarmory is exactly why it NEVER would have got an evo; nevermind that it already looks and functions as a fully evolved pokémon. it's a logically complete execution of its concept, the only direction to go is further beyond - perfect for a mega, not so much an evolution.

gmax was established day 1 as a sidegrade to evolution, which in my opinion is the best thing about the whole gimmick. gmax duraludon was an extension of the base concept, filling the same design niche a mega would have without the baggage, while archaludon was a twist that took it in a new but logical direction. it's honestly the perfect case to reference in a discussion about the merits of each approach to strengthening old mons because we got to see both sides of the coin, both paths past the fork in the road so to speak.
