You and potentially hundred of others get mind-controlled into collecting the coins, regardless of what might happen to you. And all of the sudden when it evolves it suddenly is the total bro. While I don't have a problem with that last part it's the requirement that is off-putting. If it was more like the fairy tale of the golden goose in it's presentation (You're a dick and you get punished for being a dick, you're kind and the kindness gets returned which is more so on-brand for Pokemon) then it would be better.

As an hypothetical example for SV, you run into an roaming Gimmighoul racing at you and you are presented with an option if you have Gimmighoul coins in your inventory:

If you say no, you black-out and the coins are gone, no return.
If you say yes, you either get an low-tier item of the sorts or text that reads something like: "I should give away more of them" and in the background a flag is created keeping track of the coins that were given away. Once youreach a thousand coins or about to reach it when the Gimmighoul runs at you, it asks you to follow it to a secluded spot. Answering "not now" will just place a marker on the map if you change your mind and want to check it out. When you get there, you witness it evolving and you get the Gholdengo. Maybe throw in a otherwise unlearnable move from a movepool that comes from doing it that way instead of catching it and assembling the coins in your inventory.

I think it's more about the design overall.
Pokemon has slowly evolved a cashgrabbing stigma with Gamefreak cutting down the amount of usable Pokemon per game with reasons that got debunked even before Swsh's release date and them branching out to the mobile market.

At best the gripe about how Gimmighoul evolves is justified. Gameplay-wise it can be tedious and from a concept perspective, it is questionable how a Pokemon can manipulate anyone into doing the job for it but that's it.

Will the Gen 10 anime series be named just "Pokémon"? It would make sense if OLM planned an indefinite series like Doraemon or Crayon Shin-chan, but not for Horizons. Even the JN series had a better premise but poor execution, as the Anipoke staff focused on Goh instead of giving Ash better companions like Brock, Dawn & Marine.
