Being ultrashilled is worthless if no one cared about you beforehand while being lumped with actually popular characters guarantees you art and memorability by association.
How many of you guys are old enough to remember that damn near nobody from XY got fanart at the time? Only exceptions were pretty much Serena and Shauna. Diantha didn't get any fanart until her anime appearance.
there was next to no fandom love/hype for any of the characters, even ones would have likely been popular if they had debuted in any other generation such as Korrina.

Everything in regards to XY's characters, writing and whatnot was severely undercooked.
I wish the archive still went back to the games' release so people could still see how underwhelmed everyone was at the time.

Yeah exactly. XY was "wasted potential, the game". Of course, people knew that it was their first 3D title and expected better for future title. And to be completely fair, SM definitely improved in terms of characters, if not much else.
if you think diantha having less fanarts than geeta is embarrassing just a reminder that the new fujobait character from legends ZA has more fanarts than mega dragonite

Yeah little girls are super cute to almost everyone who isn't a crazy POCD antishipper, meanwhile even old women don't like old women(which is why they all spend thousands trying to look less old)
