one of the problems with the new designs is that they are made to be plushies and figures from the get-go.

Gamefreak doesn't want any complex designs like Ivysaur or Venusaur again because they give hard times to the anime studio and plush factories.
they even had to change Blastoise's body proportions to work in Pokken.
Gen1 was made as Satoshi Tajiri's dream video game, Gen2~Gen are made to sell plushies and merchs.
