made the game pretty much unplayable for an entire generation. Even Terra has better competitive flair and it does nothing but selectively change their type once. What let the whole thing down, was Mega pokemon needed stones and were so strong that you balance your team around them. Megas aren't an instant win, if anything they are the opposite, people always complain strong mons became stronger and shit mons just became decent/good, and they also don't have the problem of being potential new mons that were dropped to make room for the gimmick instead because megas only are added to pokemon from older generations with the sole exception of Diancie, you never have shit like Coalossal that was clearly created with the giga in mind but will now never be complete because no galar, and Megas were actually in several games, in several gens and never properly left the franchise, while Giga was only in one game.

So yeah, nothing to apologize for, all the generational gimmicks suck and the time that went into creating them would've been better spent making the rest of the games better.

Honestly, out of all the regional gimmicks, DMax & GMax are my favorite.
Unlike Mega Evolution every pokemon can Dynamax, and while there are only a few GMax pokemon - it doesn't feel like a missing evolution.

Or the applin line mess, branched evolutions with wildly different body plans share the same giga form that looks more like applin itself and then we got dipplin which also uses the candy apple idea but is just a middle stage on the way to hydrapple which does look like the giga could be a reasonable alternate form for it but it missed the boat for the mechanic entirely. Then there's toxtricity that's a combination of both forms that could have been a regular harmonious form or both forms could have gotten a proper 3rd evolution where they take traits from the other representing a fuller but still distinct sound profile fitting their respective music style inspirations.
