/tcg/ Trading Card Game General
Planetary Edition

>I want to learn the game, where do I begin?
Download PTCGL at https://tcg.pokemon.com/en-us/tcgl
The game has a quick tutorial and a bunch of decent decks to get you started against other beginners or against the AI. Some of those decks are very close to meta too. You can also go to your local game store and see if people are playing Pokรฉmon.

>I know how to play, how do I make my own deck?
You have a decent beginner's guide at https://www.justinbasil.com/guide
There's also the old /tcg/ guide at https://imgur.com/a/W4NkOu6
After that, look up meta decks and try to reverse engineer them to see how things work.

>Where to find meta decks?
For big irl events, go to https://limitlesstcg.com/decks
For online events, go to https://play.limitlesstcg.com/decks?game=PTCG
For japanese events, go to https://pokecabook.com/archives/1417

Well deserved at this point. Being the only Garde to survive the onslaught of Dengos and winning the whole thing would be amazing.

Honestly Iโ€™ve hated Garde all season but itโ€™s almost fitting that the deck wins it all in the end. Its next two matchups are probably pretty favored too unless the Zard guy pulls a miracle against Pult

PTCG is a game you can lose, but not really win at, for this exact reason
there's almost always the objectively correct play at any one time, but it's whether you're able or willing to execute it
so you can't say that, as the opponent here, that you actually "won" the match when the dragapult player just randomly prized 3 copies of their attacker so they couldn't play the game, because you didn't need to actually do anything

for how big the tcg is it really doesn't have the expected number of people playing it. archaic outdated systems like prize cards are purely anti-fun don't help. being able to prize check is a big turn off for a lot of people trying to play semi-competitively, and irl is does take a lot of time as well. when the game already has an issue with running overtime and causing draws because of it

I think the reason I'd never do in person TGC competitively is it feels like such a heavy cost. Having to buy tons of packs, constantly pulling, just for a viable deck. Then Pokemon are always stingy with their prizes so it feels like the amount you get just from winning would just be recouperating all the costs.
Anonymous No.58127610

Competitive players only buy sealed products like packs and boxes at first release and for streaming laughs. They all plan out decks online and buy singles. The box at the release of a new set usually gives you enough common staples that you're just buy duplicate EXs and shit.

Printing that as a "benefit effect" on cards is extremely pointless. Anyone good in competitive will just waste time prize checking their deck anyway. Having them check all 6 before the match starts saves 3-5 minutes per game of each player prize checking, because they got to see them initially and noted it down straight away.

It's bad because the Pokemon TCG has too many "search your deck" cards. The point of including duplicate cards in your decks in TCGs traditionally is to increase your chance of drawing those cards which is why draw is so powerful. Remove Pokeballs, remove abilities that let you search for X or at least severely restrict it, you can only use (1) "search your deck" card/ability per turn etc, and then maybe you can consider removing prizes. Card games should not be deterministic and Prize Cards are one of the few things at this point that keep decks honest

I'll stick to Yugioh, MTG and One Piece.

New mega tcg? Or new mechanics like prism pokemon returning? Or teasing another trainers pokemon after the collectors success before?

YGO isnโ€™t complex at all. It appears that way because there are a lot of moving parts, searches, shuffling, and HOPT effects, but the reality is that itโ€™s a flowchart game. โ€œIf X, search Y.โ€ Every endboard is summed up by โ€œI have more interruptions than you have plays, therefore, I win.โ€ YGO is a stupid personโ€™s idea of what a complex game looks like.

That's just a worse manectric then lol. Unless you value that ability for being a stage2 vs stage1

Iโ€™m glad they brought back the cool Japanese attack names over English arts. Iโ€™m sure theyโ€™re gonna be the same tier of rarity as the Zekrom/Reshiram/Victini max rarities so Iโ€™m never gonna get one.

So you can't splash this into other decks for acceleration then unless you want a camerupt + this benchsitter RIP

I was hoping for something more... intricate and interesting rather than Raging Bolt on steroids.

Zard will basically fill the same niche as Gholdengo and Raging Bolt as the braindead infinite damage deck post rotation.

psychic checks both fighting and dragon type from being relevant. anyway HP is meaningless when charizard just discard 4 to hit 360 and 5 to hit 420.
meanwhile gholdengo (a worlds winning deck now) now needs to discard 9 energy to hit 420 lmao.

if mega greninja doesn't hit 180+ and save water type, expect charizard mega meta for 3 years

Itโ€™s even worse when you remember Camerupt doesnโ€™t need acceleration, so itโ€™s literally just for 2 megas:
