Rayu stole from Uruto because he wanted to help his Grafaiai, he not just stealing cause he's a piece of shit or whatever. Uruto and Rayu just met, and while he does appreciate Uruto's help he wants his Grafaiai to be able to make even better art that will impress a ton of people. Uruto understands this which is why he wasn't pissed with Rayu stealing from him and still considered him a friend even after what Rayu did.

People being unable to appreciate the fact that Rayu was meant to be a flawed and misguided character who made a mistake, realized that and ended the episode a better person isn't the fault of the show's writers
