What on earth made it "special"? We had like one town and a bunch of empty maps. The only thing this game had over SV was that it actually had quests for you to do but overall both PLA and SV are very middling games mogged extremely hard by just about any other JRPG.
I played this and XB3 the same year and the difference in quality is just disgusting.

Imo, what makes PLA so special is the overarching ancient Japanese touch added to story, which is unprecedented in Pokemon history.

so correct me if i'm wrong, but the only "positive" point for this shitty tech demo slop is apparently it gives off "ancient" japanese vibes which is just absurd because it's not set in the ancient past or anything

Catching mons in real time is more fun than the typical turn based way of doing it.

Enjoyed the hell out of this game until Mt.Coronet, I think I got burnout because the gameplay loop is kinda repetitive and I felt like I was able to enjoy it more when I was more invested in the game and it's atmosphere and overall concept.
I really liked the whole idea of being in the wild, having to observe pokemon and their behavior and taking a stealth approach to capturing them.
The animations, scope and the feeling of freedom and danger that the game conveys is really interesting but I feel like around the sea are the design gets a bit more sloppy and by the time Coronet Highlands comes around you already have seen all the pokemon and all their animations and the gameplay loop has already gotten boring.
If this game had a more interesting map design with gym leaders and more cities and interesting caves and dungeons to explore, it would be pretty much what my dream pokemon game would be like.
I think ZA is nailing the gameplay aspect better in regards to battling but I really enjoyed having the option to be stealth and whatnot so I hope that remains a possibility and that gen 10 learns from this game and mainline games to create a truly fun and more immersive pokemon experience.
