Pokemon by its RNG nature means you will inevitably lose sometimes even if you're the better player. Being the best is about win rate, not winning everything with no mistakes, that kind of dominance can only exist in stuff like fighting games (and even then its rare)

If we blame RNG every time we lose we also should give the win to RNG rather than ourselves too

100%, competitive pokemon is an exercise in masochism, it's like playing the slots. The dopamine hit for reading your opponent and making a correct but risky play is immense, but other times you do, your 95% accurate attack misses anyways, and you lose

I thought he made it to the second day and got eliminated before the final phase at 6-3 or something. Either way you do have to get lucky to win at worlds since the average player is better and nobody is phoning it in with shitmon meme teams. Besides ever since he started his channel just getting to worlds makes him more money through the video for it than he would have made from winning the entire tournament.

They didn't let it affect game design as much back then. In gen 9 it feels like there are 50 Pokémon with special snowflake abilities meant to be specific competitive niches. Granted I haven't played gen 9 so I don't know about the normal pokemon but it feels ridiculous at this point how they stopped catering to anyone who isn't a 5 year old, shiny hunter or vgc player.
