If sales alone determined quality, then the Transformers movies would be some of the best films ever made, since they consistently outsold far better-reviewed films. Yet almost no critic or fan would actually claim they’re better than The Godfather or Parasite. Sales measure reach, not artistic merit.

This is a score of 8 vs 3.4. Not 8 vs 7.9. That’s not a marginal difference. That’s the difference between a well-received game and one considered fundamentally broken. Commercial success doesn’t erase that reality.

At the end of the day SV is a 3.4 out of 10 while PLA is an 8 out of 10. That's the bottom line. No amount of coping will make SV not a shit game.

the only bad thing about gen 9 is that it's ugly, fundamentally it has everything that makes every pokémon game good which is why none of them have ever failed no matter what stupid narrative you try to push to cause arguments. gen 9 still has an engaging gameplay loop, it still has the competitive depth to keep serious players entertained, it still has a cute little story full of memorable moments and loveable characters in a fun little slice of the world, and it's still packed full of customizable little creatures designed to be your best friend, and THAT'S why it's successful, flat out, just like every other pokémon game; even the ones that fumble hard compared to the others like XY and SWSH. people reviewbombing metacritic because the game has bad graphics be damned, SV clearly has staying power because the millions of people that bought it are still playing it three years later. this narrative you want to build has no legs because no pokémon game has ever truly fundamentally failed.
