I got some aliexpress fakes of cards I'll realistically never own, and the chinks are getting dangerously close to passable cards.
They still can't entirely avoid that rainbow holo, and the texture is too rough compared to the real deal, but they are getting better i.e. the texture is not random but follows the artwork, energy symbols have the correct circular texture, and they even tried to replicate the pokemon watermark, although it's wrong it should be on the bottom left border while on the right there should be just a pokeball.

What's worrysome is that for AR cards with no texture such as >>58144481 itt's way more easier to make a convincing fake. I already reported several pikagengars on cardmarket and ebay since they looked blatantly fake, but I also saw some very convincing ones on aliexpress and I might buy a couple of them to post some comparisons. Anyway, if people get scammed by obvious fakes, there's a high chance that a lot of the big sales for this card were scams.

That said, I wouldn't pay 17k even for a real one

On the topic of fake cards: I'm pretty new to collecting but I was wondering did some slightly older cards have a sorta glossy texture to them? I'm not sure how to describe it but the front of the card is really smooth. I bought some GX and V cards recently and they all had that smooth surface.

Post pics, "glossy" is a broad term. In the XY, GX and V eras, the non-special/alt arts had no texture and most of the full arts had a glossy front, different from the SV IR.
Usually with real cards the gloss is not on the whole card, and if you see a distinct rainbow vertical holo that's probably a fake.

Guess ill be the only honest anon replying to you. I had the same issue before, you HAVE to vacuum regularly. Go in DEEP on the crevices of your room, under every piece of furniture too. DO NOT FORGET your closet. Think I went like 9 months without vacuuming, just pure laziness mixed with depression. Carpet beetles will actually eat through thin plastic to get to a food source so sleeved cards and binder slots can get compromised in order for them to nibble on your cards.

That's incorrect. Look at any other previous reprint card, none of the impacted the price of the original negatively. If anything, they raised the price of the original by driving interest. Base set Charizard wasn't affected by Celebrations.

And collectors definitely care enough to choose one version over another. They do this with modern cards too. Look at all the autism over stamps for things like Professor Promos, EB Games vs. Gamestop Stamps, Pokemon Center Stamp vs none on an ETB promo. These are all active choices. None of these cards are the same price, and these are all hyper modern examples.

Modern cards should ONLY be bought in a PSA10 or bust. Modern pops of PSA10s eclipse all other grades of that card combined. So if it's anything else it will be worth nothing. Buy the 9 if you want to crack if out for a nice raw copy.

PSA9 are only worthwhile for older cards from Gen 5 and earlier. Pop reports of these cards are very low across all grades, and 10s are rarer than 9s (as they should be). So 9s hold value here.

You can't compare base/celebrations zard to this moltres. Few people can afford a base set zard, and all of them are actual collectors who care about the difference because base set is older, rarer, etc.. A larger group of collectors who can't afford a base set zard will settle for a base2 or a celebrations or any other cheaper reprint, while the base one maintains its "status".

Now consider the moltres, it's not old, it's not even out of print, it's from a set that came out fucking 4 months ago, a set that will be reprinted for another 18 months. The only reason moltres price is so high is that we are in the middle of a scalping FOMO hell, and for each genuine collector there's 10 sheeps who would buy anything at any price just because a youtube video told them to hurry. Outside of this current scenario the moltres SIR would be 30-50$ at most, and you would be right in comparing it to any other reprint. but in this scenario the collectors community is bloated by tens of thousands of retards, so a promo moltres will surely drive most of these retards away from the DR SIR, for which demand will tank, and the other side of the retard team will start panic-selling.

This. A Celebrations stamp is a reprint of a vintage card with a built up legacy. And also people are less interested in the art, and more interested in owning a piece of tcg history.
Comparatively, most SIRs are popular for the art first and foremost. And the stamped Moltres will never be perceived as a reprint when it's released at the same time as the original is still on shelves. It'll be seen more as an alternate printing. A more fitting comparison would be N's Reshiram, in which the box topper and set card almost assuredly drove each other's prices down.

here what i got. 4x PSA 9 Flareon EX from Generations. go for 400ish bucks in a PSA 9. i pulled them all myself and graded myself. 2 of them admittedly should be a 10. I will regrade. no rush because I know they are 10 worthy and they are not for sale so whatever. Also a PSA 10 of one of these is going for around 4k. so this could be around 9k. a very small fraction of my collection. alot of my shit is going up vastly in value from XY and S&M era. the tides have turned and are continue to turn. lots of stuff is climbing in value and is competative with new shit. so i literally dont care your banter anymore. i know the market is correcting. i know my shit is becoming more valueable and eventually the shit from the past 5 years will have its downturn. so eat my shorts. your time was then. keep chiding your rhetoric. sooner or later you will realize you lost. in fact when i was grading these, the PSA 10 were going for about 1k too, now they rival the price of the moonbreon. lol, its so over.
