I know this is bait, but yeah, really. There’s a very small handful of Kanto mon left without anything, and we know that Gamefreak always likes using Kanto Mon in marketing to shill something. Even if this leak didn’t exist, Mega Victreebel would have been a pretty prominent guess for anyone speculating on new Megas.

Dewgong deserved to have Freeze-Dry far more than Victreebel "needed" a smegma evolution.

What's there to talk about? We already knew Mega Victreebel was happening from the prior leak, and the description made it all too apparent it WAS Victreebel too.
We still haven't gotten a glimpse of its actual design, we still don't know its battle attributes, or even its lore. We're at exactly the same place we were when Mega Dragonite happened and was a picture perfect match for the leaked Mega description.

I don't think I know of any other franchise where unofficial leaks are integral to the game's hype cycle desu

mega zeroara was mentioned in the tera leak documents discussing about the anime it's potential similarity to gaia(gen 10) before the leak that described the appearances of the megas from someone who played the early build so it's not centro's fanfic or anything
it's possible that zeroara isn't in the base game and will be added post launch in a patch for a distribution or just wasn't implemented yet in the build that they had

I was going to say there's not very many kantomons who haven't received a mega, z-move, gmax, regional form, cross-gen evo, or cross-gen pre-evo. And that it could actually be a coincidence.
But there's surprisingly a lot of fully evolved kantomons that are "unpandered". 17 of them, in fact.
Is a 1/17 guess impossible? No. But I also don't think it's likely.

arceus did have some abilities even though they weren't listed like cherrim's form change and regiggas's slow start so it's possible some megas will still have the functions of their abilities if they need them

They withhold designs all the time to add them in a later Gen after reworking. That's different to scrapping them, which happens due to internal factors such as the direction/aim of the series not facilitating a design from years prior being reworkable to the point of being accepted for the next-to-be-released game. All of the Gen 1 era stuff that didn't make Gen 1 or 2 is dead as a concept to the point they printed examples of it in a manga aimed at kids in 2018 to explain the phenomena they grew up with, they've made a clear choice to lean more into "pokémon as animal replacements while being magical fantasy beings" than "fantasy creatures that lived alongside animals and humans".
That said, I can see Zeraora being a distribution with its mega stone (it IS a mythical, after all. Makes sense it wouldn't be up for grabs in normal gameplay). Besides, time's about ripe to re-introduce it to the games and kid consciousness.

A ZA proto is apparently out there in some people's hands now. This rmc guy is the one that was working directly with gamefreakout to coordinate all the gamefreak leaks last year. He was given a copy of everything in case gamefreakout was arrested or disappeared, since they were withholding unreleased games from the leaks.
rmc accidentally left an open directory of all the files on his site. I didn't see the files but the way they're talking this has to be what it was.
