We've only seen 2 new megas and they're both worse than every single other mega design.

Gen 6 was the last cool era of Pokemon. Designs now are made to be memed and go viral on social media.

I like them, that are a classic back to Dragonair's design. If anything its the back wings throwing everything off. They should atleast have feathers like the headwings. They could also be larger. Dragonite having 2 sets of feathered wings would have been cool. I like the design besides that though. Is it bad i also dont like Mega Charizard x's wings? The way that its just one wing and the small size of it just never looked good to me. Always preferred Y.

Both Dragonite and Victreebel feel like they're taking inspiration from their previous evolutions. Dragonite gains back the head wings from Dragonair and the tail looks more "snakey" and Victreebel is returning to the goofyness of Bellsprout and Weepinbell

What went wrong is because all the older, cooler Megas are coming back, and they don't want to cannibalize them since they're just as much of a selling point as new Megas. Thus, they're leaning into wacky meme designs instead.

I love gen 5 but holy shit was basing the games side features on a poorly hosted flash game a terrible idea
And every previous generation was filled with its own share of bullshit, all the way back to gen 1 being two separate games with the only difference being some flags swapped. Gen 2 locked a bunch of Pokemon to transfer only. Gen 3 made you wait and was a graphical downgrade from crystal (compare the battle animations and palette choices).
Not to mention event exclusives, japan only content, rereleasing the same game, its all the same bullshit with a new sticker on the front. This time theyre doing megas again (likely so they can push megas in their freemium battle sim slop). Next time who the fuck knows, but i bet it'll be another stupid gimmick in a game missing even more "vital" parts of pokemon

As plain as Mega Dragonite was, I understood the premise, I actually do think it fits the Pokemon even if in my opinion it needs some tweaking. But I just don't get Mega Victreebel, funny looking megas were reserved for already goofy silly Pokemon, like Slowbro, it has never changed the main "archetype" of the Pokemon, if it was edgy it got edgier, if it was elegant it got more elegant, if it was cute it got cuter, so why did they switch from Victreebel's main design archetype, which is trying to look angry and manecing, and go for silly and goofy? If they wanted a silly Pokemon based on something similar to make a more silly Mega, go for Carnivine
