Digimon would have taken the same or worse trajectory if it had been as big as Pokemon. It's only because of its more niche status that its been allowed to pump out big tittymons, edgelordmons, have more subversive narratives, and maintain the same general art design since the beginning. If it was a global mega-money-maker, it would have been sanitized to not feel very Japanese or too "anime".

I love a bunch of the designs from Digimon. Its just not fun interacting with the franchise. I wish theyd atleast made the V-Pets an app instead of stand alone devices that have shitty batteries. Digimon could probably make decent money with a pet raising app. Could even do special Digimon that require a code that comes with a plush or something like those old computer games. Pokemon never grew up with its audience. Thats why its still popular, its ALWAYS been for children and still is, they never really pandered to nostalgia and when they do its just to familiarize kids with the classics. Digimon has the opposite problem, of sorts. They half-ass do ovas and movies trying to appease older fans but never commit to actually releasing a full anime with said grown up characters.
It doesn't make sense for both that one and Yugioh to keep trying to sell to little kids when anyone who loves those 2 franchises is around 30 years old today, in those 2 examples at least it's greed keeping them going for the toddler market instead of growing up with us.

Gamefreak got the perfect formula to make money and not care about any quality checks or external opinions because they're always targeting new toddlers discovering the franchise for the first time, might look soulful at times but it's a cashgrab.
If anything it sold out by infantilizing the Ashnime so much after it peaked at XY, the last decade of kiddie Ashnime was nothing like the original ones. Games got even easier. Designs dumber to sell plushies and cash in that Minions trend or whatever. Pretty soulless.
We should have been getting more grown up games alongside main releases at least and a running Ashnime in which he's an older teenager or at least have him show up as an Adult during Horizons

Maquinamon is half animal, half robot and can go to either one or the other while keeping the shape and logic of the other. That's a good idea and I'm not even a fan of Mulemon and Mockingbirdmon.
Now, while Mega Victreebel is not a bad concept by itself, he lost the menacing part gained by Victreebel in his final form, making Victreebel looks like the error in his line of evolution (cute -> goofy -> menacing -> goofy). He also have the same problem as most Pokemon, a bad rendering. Not only his body doesn't have any texture with a white reflection making it looks like a cheap plastic toy instead of a living creature, there is also too much space in his design with nothing going on (just one vein per leaf despite each of the leaf on his head being divided in 3 ; while his body expanded, it didn't increased the number of green spots, making it way too yellow and with the same type of yellow ; the small leafs are uneven and just put there, like you can see in the picture).
I can have the gist of Titamon in a second, but then I can see the SkullGreymon head on his sword, the skull in his arms etc. He seems to have fought a lot of battles already. What happened? There is a story behind, a lore to explore. Mega Victreebel is just strangled by his own liana and bounced around.

It covered the anime, web manga, web novel, video game, app games, VPet. Froakie really doesn't have anything to do with a ninja and saying 'yes, it is' is not an argument. It's just a frog with bubbles. The name is not based on ninja (frog+croak), even in japanese, its pokedex description doesn't say anything that looks like a ninja, just that he acts happy-go-lucky in front people which is not stealthy at all as he's not unnoticed like a ninja should. If he tries to be deceptive, he could act as a spy but that's Inteleon, which is Sobble evolution despite Sobble having nothing to do with a spy, for the same way as Froakie (name, Pokedex entries etc.)

I can say the same for Chespin (knight), Fennekin (mage), Rowlet (archer), Litten (MMA wrestler), Sprigatito (mage), Fuecoco (singer), Quaxly (dancer), and that's just for starters.
