Why are they deciding to shill Emma so hard all of a sudden? Most of the playerbase didn't even knew she exists.

Because she is in ZA?
That's the point of shilling, to sell a character which Emma definitely needs since outside of her XY story she wasn't really having much going for her so the other medias had their own little liberations with her.

Because she's the perfect literal who character that's not one the canon NPC's from the story for the XY connection. Most people don't bother with post-game shit, thus likely won't have seen her allowing her to be "new" to those, while being deep cuts for autistic shits who can act all smug around their friends that they remember her.

They picked her because she's NOT one of the "more known" characters. It also allows them to play with their universe's timeframes, so they can show Lumiose 10 years removed from the events of XY, while still adhering to the prime timeline spacing of 10 years between RG and SM. One of the ACTUAL XY story NPC's sets a hard history for whoever they pull up and it's clear they dont want to GIVE them hard histories.

She's honesty the perfect bridge between XY and ZA--a near blank slate they could mould into whatever they want. It seems like she's a big supporting character in AZ like a Cynthia-type mentor figure, and the anime staff was informed of this. Obviously they weren't given the details and also generally want to keep the world of the Pokemon anime in a status quo so they had to use a young but not-orphan Emma to promote the games.

I'm not complaining, it's cool to flesh out underutilised characters, plus she was one of the few XY characters that was any good. Also just her being there slightly hightens the chance of Looker returning.

This. Besides the fact that she's one of the main characters in ZA, she was also one of the characters NOT shown in the anime during XY's airing. If Gamefreak had chosen say Bonney as the XY rep, then ILM would be in trouble, because Bonney was one of the main characters during XY's anime run. The question would then remain: Do they age Bonney up, alluding to a years-long time difference between JN's ending and HZ's beginning, or keep her the same, and be forced to reference the old series HZ was divorced from again?
The same would be true for most of the other characters too.

Emma solves that. Because she wasn't in XY or XYZ, she's conveniently available to act as ZA's rep in the anime, like how Kabu wasn't in Journeys, so he could appear in Horizons as a Galar rep.

I'm an industry insider. It's the brown girl agenda. Specifically, western audiences have responded increasingly well to young brown-skinned female characters, across all media forms. The precise why is unclear; evidence points to "brown" countries gradually joining marketable audiences, and overall beauty standards beginning to either include or favor darker skin tones in women (especially post-Covid). Regardless, it's understood at the corporate levels to be an advantageous quality to have in your media if you're appealing to western audiences.

She happens to live in Lumiose City doing detective stuff for Looker, so it makes sense for her to guide the player solving mysteries.

People have spent like a decade complaining about Game Freak "playing favorites" with characters that everyone likes, so. Now we get Tepig as a starter, and Team Flare Mable gets a new design, and this side character Emma doing more work in the city.
