I was playing ORAS yesterday for the first time in years, and it's much better than I remembered.
Were we too harsh with ORAS, guys? Despite "the Battle Frontier project has started!" bullshit, it's a very good game overall.

I honestly didn't think ORAS was that bad. No Battle Frontier stung, but I enjoyed the new Megas, and it did try to modernize Hoenn like how FRLG and HGSS did with Kanto and Johto respectively.
It just took a worse remake in the form of BDSP for people to start realizing that fact.

People were blindsided by no Battle Frontier hard enough to not see the fact that Secret Bases could have been utilized far better than just having Blissey bases for EXP gain. They acted as that game's battle e-cards but instead of dotcodes you used QR codes.

Honestly, I don't hate the absence of the Battle Frontier in ORAS as much as I hate that they decided to tease the Battle Frontier in-game. There's even an Ace Trainer NPC at the Battle Resort who says that the Battle Frontier will be a more "special and robust' Battle Facility compared to the Battle Maison. This statement is technically true of course, but what's the fucking point of undermining your own game's battle facility like that? That's just retarded. I wonder who gave the greenlight for that NPC.

I think my issue is that ORAS sticks too close to RS for a huge chunk of the game. I don't think any of the improvements from Emerald were used in ORAS, be it encounter tables, random trainers or Gym Leaders.
Sure, after catching/KOing the box legend you get a whole bunch of new encounters through the Dexnav on every route, but at that point my team was already finalized.
I don't think they're bad games, they just could've been so much better if they just tried.

My copy is arriving on Monday, I'm catching up on all the games I missed. Finished X and Y recently.

Anything I should know about? Can I use pokemon bank?

Bank is still available but as you probably saw in XY all other 3DS online content is dead and has been for more than a year now. Streetpass stuff also likely unusable unless you live near a TCG tournament or convention. Same as XY you can still add social stuff via QR code or friend code, might google around for anything interesting/useful in that arena.

>No Safari Game (the Safari Zone is still in the game tho, just as a normal route)

>No Berry blending minigame, you automatically make Poke blocks now

Everything else is really good in my opinion. I just wanted you to know the so-called negatives (although most of them are subjective)
