Gen 2: bland, boring a large amount of kanto extensions/pre evo
Gen 3: Probably Close second, but too many pokemon convey to the themes of land and sea
Gen 4: Again pretty mediocre, latter half is full of gen1/2 evolutions.
So Gen 1 wins because every design is somewhat unique and not stealing from another generation. This is coming from someone who's favorite gen is 3
>>58153313 >convey
maybe meant "conform" >mediocre
by what standards? >Gen 1 wins because every design is somewhat unique and not stealing from another generation
how does that not apply to the others?

I see gen iv as a development of one of the trends present in gen iii
it got "edgier" but certain gen i monsters were already edgy to an extent

It's hard to pick between the first three because they all have great designs and stinkers, but I can say without a doubt it's not Gen 4. There are only a handful of mons I like from it, way too many ugly or overdesigned ones. I would want to say Gen 2 because even though it has lame ones I think it has the highest concentration of cool designs. It's also the only gen where I actually like all 3 starters. Gens 1 and 3 have some really big highs but they also have lows that are worse to me than anything 2 has produced. So I'll go with 2.
>>58153445 >overdesigned
no such thing >I think it has the highest concentration of cool designs
that's supposed to be gen iv >I'll go with 2
the fisher price designs gen?
>>58153463
what's supposed to be brilliant about lickilicky
ask anyone and they'll more than likely say it's actually the worst cross-gen evo of its gen or them all
>>58153458
I'll take 'Fisher Price' over ugly abominations anyday. Rhyhorn line was one of my favorites until they decided it ended in Rhyperior. There are some cool mons like Drapion, but most of the Gen 4 mons just veer into 'why did you add all that unnecessary shit and fuck over the design' territory.
>>58153468
i didn't say it was brilliant, i said it was solid. it's a big fat monster with a big tongue. the lack of features on its body means less to distract from its rotundness. the wifi markings on its belly are carried over from lickitung's stripes. the bib carries associations of eating messily and drooling. same with the round cheeks.
>>58153487
If you genuinely think that all I can say is you must have grown up in a world where you took Rhyperior for granted as being part of the line, because virtually everyone that was around for Pokemon before Gen 4 recognized it as a horrible and uncanny addition. It's not a matter of bath toys. It's like saying pizza is bad with just cheese or a few toppings, as if you need to pick a shit ton of toppings that then taste gross together because they clash.
>>58153513
only girls just eat cheese pizza or with one topping
the more things on there the better; it's not called "supreme" for no reason
of course you still have to choose the right toppings
>>58153922
NTA but your post doesn't even directly address what he said. We got Feraligatr = crocodile, Donphan = elephant, Girafarig = giraffe, Stantler = deer, Murkrow = crow, Ariados = spider, etc. Donphan getting around by rolling like a wheel is a cool creative spin to distinguish from Rhyhorn being more of an expected charging rhino.
>>58153281 (OP)
3 > 1 > 4 > 5 >>>>>> 2
Gen 2 Pokemon are mostly gay chungus reddit shitmons, the starters are trash, and the legendaries feel shoehorned. You'll end up with the majority of your team being Kantomons when you play those trash games.
>>58153440
I see gen iv as developing clear trends of everything everyone complains about nugen designs so anyone who likes the gen 4 dex and not nugen designs is a hypocrite
>>58154147
I agree, tired of the >let's slap a bunch of shit on it
kind of designs, not to mention they for no fucking reason turned the rhino line into a construction worker jobmon and people nowadays are always complaining about jobmons
>>58154189
Thatโs not why Rhyperior is a shit design. You can add job theming to something without it being retarded, you just need to spin (heh) it a certain way.
>>58154218
Yeah sure they should have turned Mega Charizard Y into a hairstylist with a blowdryer tail since blowdryers use heat and air to reference both its types. If you can't see the problem is your line of thinking you're hopeless.
>>58154228
They certainly picked all the wrong choices one way or another, but I'd have preferred they made a separate rhino jobmon than tainting the Rhyhorn line.
Either Gen III or Gen IV has the best design philosophy because they actually understand that it's important for Pokemon designs to have details, multiple layers of depth, and to lean cool or elegant and overall more mature.
