I just started re-watching the OG series on Pokemon TV and boy I'm having a blast and it's not only nostalgia. Also it seems like I'm falling for nearly every single female COTD including
>Giselle
>Duplica
>Tyra
>Lara Laramie
If you have free time, I can recommend it to anyone.

I've just started rewatching the original series in japanese and I have to say at least in the early episodes, the english dub did a great job keeping the dialogue and story beats intact. Biggest difference so far aside from character, town, and pokemon names is the inclusion of realistic guns, which iirc got edited out of the 4kids dub. I'm sure there will be bigger differences later though. The english dub intro is still absolutely better

This. I don't think burgers even realize how well voiced and acted Pokemon actually is.

This but unironically, I have some mid N3 tier knowledge of Japanese and I watched like 30 episodes of Pokemon a couple of years ago and I was really surprised by how well Misty's English VA managed to copy the Japanese kawaii moe type of voice delivery since it's extremely atypical for American female VA's to speak with that sort of tender cadence (they usually have this dry vocal fry sort of intonation instead).

Team Rocket's motto has a surprisingly clean translation in English and generally speaking, the main difference is just the jelly donut stuff. Otherwise, the dialogue translation is weirdly accurate, at least the ones where Misty talks. I remember comparing the English and Japanese episodes occasionally because I was really impressed by her English performance.
More English female VA's should try to emulate Misty instead of whatever Taylor Swift-esque voice they put on in modern dubs

Well what's definitely certain is that the 4kids Pokemon English dub is awesome, i.e. before the Battle Frontier VA change during the Advanced seasons.

It's not that the Japanese dub isn't good - it's certainly nice but it has a somewhat different feel from the Pokemon anime that people usually refer to. It's a bit more serious I guess? No offense but Yuji Ueda simply doesn't compare to Eric Stuart as Brock and that's just an objective statement.
Speaking in the context of /vp/, the Japanese dub for the early seasons of the ashnime seems like a very oddly specific thing to, uh, "stan" for, or should I say it's unusual to see someone be so adamantly opinionated on it in the first place. Rika Matsumoto's performance is a better fit for Ash's role though in the context of the show if you want to be really objective because Taylor's performance makes the tone slightly more juvenile I guess?
As I said, it's just a very oddly specific topic for discussion overall.

It's a bad dub because there are cut elements. Liking the voice cast alone doesn't make it a good dub

4Kids did a bunch of shit that was iconic to western Pokémon. The original opening, the Pokérap, and pretty much any of the other based songs from Pikachu's Jukebox were all 4Kids. That plus having decent VAs that put actual emotion in their work gave Pokémon a footing that they otherwise would not have found if say the current company dubbed Pokémon since the beginning

People that didn't grow up in English speaking countries wouldn't have any nostalgia for the English dub voices and thus wouldn't have any reason to lie to themselves that they were totally super good and superior to the original ones.

I will never understand that because, at the time, Latin America still had translators of Japanese.
Then again, Latin America has always been odd. The Digimon dub is based on the Japanese version with no censorship or history changes, but the Digimon and main characters all use their English-dubbed games. Wish someone explained why that happened.

You forgot Musashi and Kojiro having 2 of the best voice actors in the world, vs 2 random americans

Shilling for anime dubs will always look stupid simply because Japan has the most competitive and prolific voice industry in the world and its reflected in their work, everything from the main cast to random side characters are always top notch vs random burgers who couldn't make it to Disney level productions

Also half the jokes are missing in the English version. Sounansu entire presence is based on jokes from their name, which "wobbufet" has nothing to do with

>random burgers who couldn't make it to Disney level productions
They can't make it to ANY other level production. English anime dubbing is exclusively done by shitters that can't get any other kind of acting work, it's the lowest paid and least respected kind of acting there is. It's a job that only exists because kids and midwits can't read subtitles, and they don't really care about the quality of the acting as long as it's in the right language.

I can easily sit and watch through all of Kanto whether it’s Japanese or English dub. But any other season and I get bored partway through and end up dropping it. It’s not even like I have the most nostalgia for the Kanto anime since I watched more of advanced and DP when I was younger.

the only good thing Twitch has ever done is have that Pokemon marathon for several months. used to wake up every day and watch it with a cup of cappuccino for a few hours before going about my day and then come back at night and watch even more. it was a depression healer. there was nothing quite like watching pokemon episodes with a bunch of meme loving faggots spamming the chats. its hard to really convey how enjoyable it was. and then it just ended and Twitch became a awful platform again..

Imagine this
> She meets the OS trio again
> Something happens and her gang member are in danger.
> She gets to see Brock's capable side when he came up with plan to help her fellow gang member.
> She falls for Brock but too tsundere to admit her feeling specially after she treated him during the first time.
There were so much potential with CotD on OS series.

I'll throw hand into the piranha pool and posit that to me dub v original fights exist primarily to convince IP holders and licensors that interest in the original cut is there. Once you get that that, either officially or sadly unofficially in Pokemon's case, the biggest reason for anyone to be heated is gone. Hell, international dub viewers WIN in that arrangement because they get an entirely "new" production of a show they already liked. Whenever I've done that with an edited show I just end up enjoying the show all over again.

Foreign licensors going all in with domestic character and image songs is usually delightful, however.
