Not anyone already in the thread but I am that man. What's worse is I play Masters too (I enjoy the gameplay) so I keep running into players that only talk about ignoring male characters and calling you a fag when you embrace male characters in any capacity because they can only view things through a sexual lens. It's really annoying, I don't know why there aren't more people who can separate reality from fiction. The characters aren't going to jump out of the screen and love you for real, which is why I just look at characters as they are instead of any kind of sexual prospect. I hesitate to say the people here have mental problems because of how many there are like this but there's definitely some kind of disconnect considering their persistent behavior.

I didn't say its terrible. I just said that it outright removes any deep discussion one could have about characters. All those "character general" threads in this board are but a joke, because they all boil down to just posting provocative images of these characters and gooning. Finally, someone rational and a fellow PokeMas player. I don't know what it is about this franchise that cultivates farm animal behavior, but I feel the only way to enjoy it anymore is through how Masters allows the characters to actually act beyond what limited roles they have in the source game and build deeper appreciation for them. I wouldn't have given a shit about characters like Carmine, Marnie, Sophocles, Elio, Ethan or even Lance just playing the mainline games but PokeMas does a great job at letting me see the sides of them the games seem to refuse to show. TeraLeak also helped a lot getting me to like characters like Skyla, Sina or Acerola some more by telling me the various shades of tan were actually intentionally supposed to represent cultures and ethnicities instead of being just a flavored anime girl

I think on the surface Pokemon doesn't really encourage actually wanting to look too deep into its characters because it would rather distract you with the funny monsters but it's nice to know they do put a lot of effort into making them unique and why they're designed around their respective teams. Helps the world building tremendously

What got me into it is that it patches up Pokemon where the mainline falls short, for instance filling in the blanks on their inaccurate moves and making them carry out their mainline gimmick or niche in a fully fleshed out way that can outpace the usual good mon suspects. I also like that it's triple battle format and right on my phone. I don't like gacha for gacha and really only play because it's Pokémon, but I've dropped other Pokemon mobile games in the past where this one has still kept some of my interest. I wouldn't recommend it to others though, but I just keep up because I already have an account loaded with years of play.

It's mainly just a source of leaks and easy non-login access to discussions about games played. Yeah I really enjoy seeing the unlikely but made possible interactions between characters from different games. Really adds a new dimension to them. It's cool when they do stuff like wish fulfillment too where Morty can get Ho-Oh and Eusine can get Suicune and Zinnia can get Rayquaza, etc. Oh also, the music can really be amazing. It was just the linear nature of the game and them packing all the new Pokemon behind unfun gimmicks that really turned me off. I was trying to give the game a fair shot and maybe convince myself I was wrong about it but instead it confirmed all my issues

Hate being the type of mf that experiences a story through YouTube but it feels like companies keep putting out YouTube games instead of ones that are actually fun to play. Even if I get the gist of it it's annoying it's just not the game I'd like to play and I also have to go through the rest of the stuff and I really, really don't like Team Star and have little interest in Arven or Nemona. For what it is, I did like Aisle of Armor despite my above issues and Sun so I'm just not really interested in what Pokemon considers the main product anymore and want more of the abstract stories they've been telling. That's why I like PokeMas, I get the characters I like without it being a (You) circlejerk

The game's limited to only 6 mons per team, I don't like to train more than that because even if the grind is easy now, switching between stuff is cumbersome. And since every regional dex is always the same 200~400 to begin with I don't really have interest in larger teams. It's at odds with how I like to play the earlier stuff

Also it's not that it would affect the ability to use new mons, it's that I can't rely on old mons that I haven't used yet as effectively because of how suffocating the roster filler can be at times. Some mons greatly value being available easier in newer regions like Skarmory or Houndour, and I tend to get a bad deal dealt when I try to consider using something I haven't before only for it not to be in the game at all

PokeMas also does the cutscenes well because not everything is voice acted. Most modern games like P5 and DQXI only really half-voice minor cutscenes by having an audio clip here and there. It's enough to keep shit from being too dull and wouldn't really require needing to voice ALL the dialogue in the game. Just bare minimum stuff to stomach the cutscenes because even if I DO watch gameplay, all you hear is the text box click sounds and that gets so ear grating given the game's ambience

I'm an oldhead, my most replayed game is Blue. Feel like I could stomach the writing better if the game focused more on essentials than spectacle. It's the same reason I don't really care for most cinematic RPGs. Even I thought DQXIS was too modern

i guess it’s just different play styles. switching between pokemon on the fly never felt too cumbersome, and i rarely worry about older pokemon during playthroughs because i typically limit my teams to new pokemon (fuck sinnoh for locking half their new evolutions behind platinum/postgame though), and these past few gens i’ve liked the dexes enough to actively want to run so many pokemon. there’s something fun about being able to say “well, time for the steel gym, i’ll use all 3 fighting types and both ground types i’ve been training” or whatever, without it meaning your team has 0 type variety. i also typically don’t do tons of replays, so i don’t worry too much about blowing my load with individual pokemon

Just my two cents here. I did not care for SS but though SV was bretty gud, with the DLCs being stronger overall. I wouldn't say it's a must-play, but I do agree that a large part of Carmine's appeal is indeed her personality and how here character develops over the course of the DLC story.

That's fair, and also a bit of a problem in SV, but there's so much choice for Pokémon to catch that you can just add new shit to your team whenever you feel like you're overleveling. Plus you can just avoid fighting trainers.

While the silent thing is still a problem in SV, the characters are a lot less insufferable than in SwSh, in my opinion at least. Arven is a bro, Nemona is funny and Penny is eh, but she's not actively annoying like Hop. And none of them are total cardboard like Marnie.

You can see it in some fanfics they write, it's usually "AU" slop where they take a character and then completely change their personality and put them in a completely different setting. It's literally just taking a character's looks and changing everything else about them. Hell sometimes they change the looks too (make them taller etc).
