Morimoto knocked it out of the park twice, Iwao has directed both a solid basic Pokemon game (USUM, which you didn't list) and something borderline experimental that was better than every other Switch title so far (not a high bar), Masuda knows how to make a game on a fundamental level but rarely does anything impressive, and Ohmori has some bright spots in SM and SV but that's drowned out by not only being bad at doing anything with the game but also at making the game in the first place holy shit. Everyone else has too small of a sample size but Unno handled it best outside of maybe Tajiri because Gen 1 was a mess and the Gen 2 he was mostly in charge of never came to fruition but between the two games he managed to create a single functional game.

Development hell, Pokemon getting way too big way too fast, possibly pressure from the Producer to get out of development hell in a way a person with a degree related to computers (Masuda) could really handle.

You could have picked anything but the worst game Masuda directed (twice, as a matter of fact).
