Well that's kinda the thing, when they release a new unit I really want, I will obviously want to have enough gems to pity them and would regret if I already spent them all willy nilly on literal gambling for broken units, especially if I didn't even get any. And I really like most Paldea characters (they're the reason why I started playing Mastersex), so it's likely that they'll release "a favourite" at any point soon. That's why I try to save as much as possible.

See I love pulling for Selects becaus not only do I get to gamble for a whole 25 units, I am ALSO guaranteed to get something decent of my choice. I also wouldn't spend 5k (which I mostly saved from bundles) on 25 potential duds that aren't worth shit, but the fact that I can get at least one good unit guaranteed makes it pretty worth it for me. It's not JUST gambling.

Anyway, I'm still thinking about it, thanks for the advice either way. I actually forgot to mention that I AM pretty close to pity on the Mix scout (286/300) so that's something to consider too.

Pick your 3-5 ABSOLUTE FAVOURITES and skip everything else until you reach 100-110k gems

That's how I got to 300+ thousand gems, by skipping limiteds I liked but not ADORED and got them on reruns along other units I liked or needed for meta reasons with better odds.

Especially with MF reruns having 3 units now, skipping should become easier the more you save. Sometimes you'll get hit by multiple pities in a row but on reruns you'll at least have usually picked other limiteds on the way there.

If you can afford the 3k bundle 3-4 times per year selects become also available, which skip you rng of pulling altogether

Yeah, spamming sync is the strat but the method to get as many sync in as possible is to paralyze opponents and them spamming either thunder wave/stun spore or sing on them so it fails and you sync with your DPS unit every 12-18 seconds depending on rng after syncing with your support ex units for buffs.

Here's one of the first results I got on YouTube, you can see them almost never attacking and spamming moves that fail to accelerate syncs as much as possible, with some RNG in evasion or full para that you can just ignore.

So let me know if I finally get how units work in this game after playing for a week:
First you have poker fair units that are just regular monthly units with regular pokemon, this get added to the regular pool later?
Then Master fair units that are "more hype" with cooler pokemon and a passive that gives a buff to your entire team and are exclusive to this banners.
Then you have anni units like the 3 we are gonna get in a couple of days that are meta defining.
Recently we had "arc suits" that are really powerful and haven't rerun yet

The first group is technically for Spotlights (latest was Illima) but Pokèfairs are essentially becoming the new spotlight for how easier they’ve become to obtain and the clear decline in spotlights. BP Voucher - every 2000 Battle Points (obtained through Daily Regional, Champion Stadium, events, Legendary Arena, etc.), you get a voucher to exchange for a 4* version (ie. Falkner & Pidgeot)
Super BP Voucher - every 10000 BP, you get a super voucher for a more desirable character (some are generic alts, but there are the Battle Chatelaines)
Damage Challenge Exchange - every 300 tickets, you can exchange for a rival alt
Lodge Exchange - there are currently 40+ characters that can appear in the Lodge ranging from story freebies (Rosa) to Master Fairs (Adaman). Obtain the base pair (ie. no Adaman (Special Costume) & Ursaluna, only Adaman & Leafeon) to invite that character to the Lodge. Raise their friendship level to 100 to unlock a 4* alt (ie. Adaman & Vaporeon, Rosa & Dewott)

So the twist of PLA is that the Cyrus-looking character doesn't take after Cyrus, the Cynthia-looking character does.
