>A solid third of Champions winners is gen 5
>Another fifth is gen 1
>Another fifth is gen 4
>Gens 7, 8, and 9 are represented entirely by Ultra Beasts, starters, Paradoxes, and legendaries
>Only gen 6 pokemon to win is pre-nerf Talonflame
>Only gen 2 pokemon to win are Tyranitar and Hitmontop (???)
Why?

>gen 5 was insanely powercrept
>gen 1 got sucked off to no end
>gen 4 was like 30% evolutions to old pokemon
>now that gamefreak gives more of a shit about vgc, they’ve made starters good and the shit that’s supposed to be good actually good
>gens 2 and 6 had tiny dexes

I'm surprised Xerneas hasn't won a World Title

not sure what Gen 6's excuse is. However, Gen 2 was made before PvP was a priority on the minds of he developers. Competitive only became a major focus around Gen 4 and even then VGC World's wasn't a thing until Gen 5. The only reason why Gen 1 has so many is because of KANTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Privelege, While Hoenn is carried by mostly buy the Weather Trio, and Shilldevior.

I feel like this is at least a bit of a misrepresentation of gen 6, since Kangaskhan, Gengar, Rayquaza, Gyarados, Salamence, one of Groudon's wins, and one of Kyogre's wins were all from their forms introduced in gen 6.

didn't gen 6 introduce the fewest pokemon of any generation? Just not much to work with

Comes down to everyone knowing Xerneas is so strong that they all build their entire teams specifically to fuck it up the ass.

Wait, where the fuck is Smeargle?
Who made this tier list?
Anonymous No.58177154
>>58177134
Smeargle placed many times but never actually won Worlds, its sort of like Xernas but with versality rather than raw power

I had a feeling there was some statistical chicanery going on here, so I decided to make a graph to visualize it better.
2011 only allowed gen 5 Pokemon, so that was six free Worlds placements for gen 5.
I counted mega evolutions and primals as gen 6 Pokemon, because they were made in gen 6.
I counted Ursaluna as gen 9 because gen 9 was when it first became usable in competitive.

Why is Smeargle on this list but not the tier list in the OP? Also great work.

The event in 2008 was only US and Japan. Worlds didn’t officially start until 2009

The ones in gen 4, your guess is as good as mine. I didn't play comp back then, and I can't even find what their teams' movesets were.

What did Gardevior do in gen 6 to gain a win in that era, when other Mega evolutions that had higher stats?
Curious about the Gastrodon builds btw.
Also wasn't Gothitelle shadow tag banned after her win in Unova? So what did she do in Gen 6 2014?

It actually wasn't even Mega Gardevoir. It was Choice Scarf.
Honestly, it's a wilder pick than Pachirisu, I have no idea what he was thinking.

Follow me and nuzzle pachirisu. Paralysis was really strong in that gen and he had a set up with 2 pokemon Paralyzing the enemy. Gothitelle had thunder wave as well.

Like you noted, anything prior to 2009 is arcane and relegated to old forums that probably closed shop a decade ago or were entirely in japanese that also shut down.
You'd have to know the site and the archive to even get an idea of what team building lookednlike back then.

The way competitive players talk about Incineroar, you'd think it had more than 3 wins
(I only play singles)

Alolawak dealt with all the UBs people were bringing, since it was restricted to the Alola dex. The only one it didn’t have a favorable matchup against was Nihilego.

Charizard Y and G-max Zard both made top 8s at worlds. Y did it in 2014/2018 and then G-Max Zard in 22.
I think Zard X placed high in a few regionals too, but it's definitely the lesser of the 2 because Zard Y is the ultimate sun support(it sets the sun no matter what turn 1 even if the opponent switched in contrary weather) and sweeper wrapped into one.
Whereas Zard X is a setup sweeper generally and you have to support it, that category is already oversaturated.
G-Max Zard played like Zard Y but on steroids, solar power, life orb, under the sun GMax Wildfire basically KO'd anything that didn't resist and sometimes did anyway. Then it did 1/6th of both the opponent's health per turn after that until the end of the game. Literally insane, I hate Dynamax so much bros.
