Left looks better in all examples. Pokémon Legends Arceus nailed the characters and the Pokémon, it only needed a bit more work on the environment.

Anyway, it looks way more cohesive than what came after (Snap, Detective Pikachu, SV, and now Z-A).

The new character models are UGLY. If you check the artwork for the TCG you can see the designs can still somewhat work, but the models are hideous. Doesn't help that there is absolutely no art direction and you have a mishmash of styles (just see how the eyes are done in different characters)

But Pokémon? They definitely look better in cel-shading. "Realistic" fur and sit like that with some cartooney eyes is out of place

I think it was mostly when they put realistic hair textures over a more stylistic depiction of hair when it looked really bad. Think like the squared hair tufts on ursarings shoulders. I think xy/sm looked better than sword and shield too with the outlines and more anime like cell shading.
