Goes back farther than that, tho Mesopotamia could still be furry, not just feral cave paintings. Some paleolithic statuettes/carvings had a man with the head of a big cat. Anthropologists speculated the man saw the cat hunting, and wanted to gain that power by embodying it, as shown in the figurine.
Clearly furries have been in human society since we have had fur.
