It's an alright gen, kind of middle of the road in my opinion.
Some of my takes:
>ruinous quartet best lesser legendary group since the gen III regis
>would have liked more regional variants, convergent mons are nice enough but very underutlized
>happy to see proper cross-gen evos
>gholdengo worst mon in gen IX dex

i actually liked the story overall for once, good characters, some good new evos, as others said i wish more regional variants had existed

it’s an open world which more or less categorically suck, but this series gets to cheat by incentivizing you visit places for pokémon spawns, even if the environment in these games are rather bland and usually a barely spruced-up game engine terrain sculpt

it got thrashed by bad performance and kinda shitty art which is arguably more apparent on switch 2 with the performance patch, but it’s a bummer, because the reworked models, animations, and surface textures for pokémon were all good, and worse yet ZA won’t have them bc of development occurring in parallel

the DLCs mog the base game, esp kitakami, which makes me feel like maybe it’s time for a break from the “tour of the globe” region inspirations

overall, had the makings of a solid 8/10 entry maybe, but was trapped in a game with issues that dragged most of its duration down, idk maybe it’s a 6, still better than gen. 6 & 8

It has some strong points. All the legendaries pre-DLC are excellent. Some designs are really cool like some of the paradox mons, Lokix, Charcadet line etc... We also got new evos like Annihilape, Clodsire, Kingambit and more Applin evos.
The starters are ok. I prefer Skeledirge and Mewoscarda is decent, but I really don't like Quaquaval.
Unfortunately it also suffers from other things like the terrible BW paradox legendaries, Grass/Fire being wasted on Scovillain, Wiglett's line (among one of the most useless pokemon I have ever seen), Spidops (a Gen 2 pokemon in gen 9, really?) and of course...Frigibax. And this dex has one of the most forgettable lines ever: Bramblin and Brambleghast.
Overall I really like it thanks to its good points, but it also has some terrible shit in it.
>>58203067
Agreed. It kinda makes me wish for a pokemon based on Y2K aesthetic or even Frutiger Aero.

It wasnt too bad aside from all of the frame rate issues on the switch 1. I like the pseudo, the treasures of ruin, and a handful of others from Gen 9.

The dislikes: I dont like the legendary being rideable it takes away from them being a legendary and being special. I also dont like the designs of the PC's.

also: surely we get frutiger porygon-4 at some point, right?

genuinely one of my favorite dexes ever. starters aren’t really my thing besides the fuecoco line, but there’s so many other lovable mons like tandemaus, fidough, nacli, bellibolt, tinkaton, houndstone, and dudunsparce. my biggest problem is almost every future paradox is lame as hell, valiant is awesome but the rest look too much like their current equivalents, and the naming scheme is so boring

I liked grass at as a starter, I'm happy I tried it on ryujinx before committing to buy, saved me like 80 dollarydoos. Fixing the performance and graphical issues isn't enough. A lot of wasted potential in this game so it's rather sad

one of the most solid dexes in a while, some middling mons but mostly good designs. especially a big fan of the cross gen evos and the paradox mons, particularly the past ones. roaring moon is literally the worst design in the series though, no idea what they were thinking there.
Anonymous No.58203465 >>58204064
Dex is mostly good to great with only like maybe 10 or so dog ass designs I dislike (Rellor, Baxcalibur line, Raging Bolt..)
Paradoxes are great from a design standpoint and they did a great job of taking the legendary Pokemon and actually making them feel legendary, I don't care for the Loyal Three design wise, but love that they're an example of a legend being twisted around, and the Treasures of Ruin are S class monsters.
I think when SV's dex is good, it's really good, but when it's bad, it's reaaaallly fucking bad and if a Pokemon from this gen is mid tier, it's completely forgettable (when was the last time you saw someone talk about Bramblin), but the highs are better than the lows and the average level of quality is pretty gud. Easily mogs Gen 4 and 8's dexes at the very least which is great for modern Pokemon.

Definitely like no hate towards baxcalibur but it just doesn't have the "It factor" the other pseudo's have like.
>Dragonite
Odd one out in its line and the only dragon at the time
>Tyranitar
Basically Godzilla
>Salamance
Big ass dragon that learned to fly
>Metagross
Super computer spider
>Garchomp
Fighter jet shark
>Hydregion
evil hydra
>Goodra
Evolved from a weak snail
>Kommo-o
Boxing dragon
>Dragapult
Stealth bomber ghost crocodile
What's baxcalibur's thing? A sword on its back? It's Godzilla again? Where's it's thing? The sword thing is something it kinda ripped off from haxorus.
Tinkaton would've been the first fairy type pseudo and it actually has a unique thing unlike baxcalibur

Gholdengo is ugly as fuck, it's stats and ability are so fucking good though, bordering on too good.
Garganacl was awful, it took a lot of time for veluza to grow on me and I still think arboliva is kinda lame as a final evolution since it feels incomplete for a dryad.
I only liked the crocodile as far as starter went mostly carried by crocalor.

I liked Wo-chien, Pawmot, squakabily flamigo and the 3 dog lines since the moment I saw them.

Most of paradox pokemon were a big miss outside of the moths, gallade donphan and ttar, now that I think about it I mostly enjoyed the robots.

The box legends were lame and so we're the DLC pokemon.

I liked tauros and found wugtrio to be incredibly stupid but ok in the end, toedscruel had potential but it's ability is ass.

Evolution were mostly ok, girafarig and dusnparce were dumb but silly anihilape and kingambit were for the most part just the second stage but edgier and I found that to be ok, it's the same principle as dudunsparce if you stop and think about it, Hydraple didn't disappointed me either.

I guess that's my opinion on the pokemon of SV, mostly average with some serious lows. Gholdengo is but fucking ugly.

If not for the prehistoric Pokemon, this would be my least favourite Pokedex alongside Galar. I would place it in bottom 3 either way. Some Pokemon are good (e.g. Pawmot, Ceruledge, Cyclizar, Tinkaton) but most of them are either average or bad (Grafaiai, Brambleghast, Tatsugiri, Sandy Shocks, Iron Hands etc.).

>favourites
Meowscarada, Mabostiff, Kingambit, Great Tusk, Roaring Moon, Gouging Fire, Raging Bolt.
>absolute garbage

Ground-types made out really good this generation. I'll explain.
>Clodsire
The first Ground/Poison alternative to the Nidos (since Gen 1!!) and the first Ground-type immune to Water that also isn't 4x weak to Grass.
>Toedscruel
The first Ground/Grass alternative to Torterra and a rare Special Defensive option for the type. Also: Spore!
>Great Tusk
THE first Ground/Fighting Pokémon (how did it take this long?)
>Iron Treads
A fast Ground/Steel better bulk than Excadrill.
>Sandy Shocks
The first Ground/Electric alternative to Stunfisk (lol) and a dually rare fast Special Attacker for the type.
>Ting-Lu
The first Ground/Dark alternative to Krookodile and a fairly rare Ground-type legendary

mythicals were called legendaries in the west for the majority of pokemon's run
UBs are officially considered legendaries
Paradox mons are pretty much just a new take on UBs just instead of insane, un-pokemon-like designs for the most part, they are edgy or wack reinterpretations of existing designs through a sketchbook spec evo lens. The only good argument against them is that you can catch a bunch oc dupes in a dlc area but I really don't think that disqualifies them from being analogous, and thus readily lumped in with them.

They’re quite explicitly not considered legendaries officially.
The one argument for them being legendary was that they were programmed as such earlier, but that isn’t even the case anymore.
