Plushie chibification
How do you feel about the trend shift in regards to size proportions of Pokemon designs?

Both Sprigatito and Fuecoco (as well as their final evos) are among the most popular mons of their generation so I think it might be a success.

2. Gen 2 was explicitly made to capitalize on Pokemon's explosive popularity by pandering to girls. The devs were cited as being happy that the move was a success with their own daughters, who had plushies of baby Pokemon.

>"I see. Most Pokemon in Gold & Silver were of the cute variety, but this time…”
>Sugimori: “Indeed, there were a lot of kiddy designs, and some fans were starting to say Pokemon had become too babyish, so one theme for Ruby & Sapphire was returning to the coolness of monsters.
>“In your previous interview at the time of Gold & Silver (February 2000 issue), you said when you were designing Pokemon, you had to consider merchandising, and that created some constraints.”
>Sugimori: “Rather than constraints, I’d say we were careful about a lot of things. Like we’d say ‘if we don’t make a Pokemon this way, they’ll be difficult to animate in the TV show.’ We didn’t really think about those kinds of things this time, which might be bad for the anime staff and independent artists.”

Gen 2 started it, by gen 3 all starters had giant heads on tiny bodies

Not a fan. I like it better when Pokémon are creatures first, marketable plushies second. Many Pokémon from later generations would be vastly improved in their heads shrank by 25 - 50%.

Idc, original 151 are the only popular and never will be topped, gamefreak and tpc knows it that's why they are shilled all time

Bulbasaur: need talent and time to draw and animate for anime because of the details and various expressions.
Sprig: don't need any talent or time, just a quick doodle on a digital tablet AND templates from reference papers since it's just a "cute face" giant head on a tiny body with no fingers and details.

Sugimori himself admitted that he hates drawing Venusaur because it's too complex and hard, which is also why it didnt' appear in the aniem a lot since its requires effort, and they don't need to invest that much on a plush ad

The only shilled pokemon from Kanto are the starters (especially Charizard), Pikachu, Eevee, Gengar, Machamp (as the eternal jobber). Most of the rest is just filler and you know it.

>cat is more slender than a toad
imagine my shock. i can't deny the broad bobblehead trend in the series (which actually peaked in gen 6 and has been on a decline since then) but this is a really bad example. factoring in what animal they're meant to be, bulbasaur's head-to-body size ratio is actually pretty similar to sprigatito's, and if you made an even more apt comparison - say, meowth and sprigatito - you'd find their proportions are basically the same.
a comparison i like to consider is between the two in picrel, because they actually do show a stark difference in aesthetic sensibilities through the years. that said, i think all it speaks to is how the series has evolved over time. it's not like things were ever gonna stay exactly the same, they aren't even the same now as they were 12 years ago - people's reactions to the new megas should tell you that much.
seriously ask yourself, when was the last time we had a mon with the proportions of helioptile? maybe an outlier or two like nickit in gen 8? honestly as soon as gen 7 the pendulum started to swing back in the direction of normal proportions, in hindsight i could have put salandit in this image too to hammer that point home.

you really can't tell they're all that different until you put them right next to each other and if anything, A!pix makes the original look weird in comparison, not the other way around.

And yet, all of them except Jynx and the Eeveelutions (the former due to being shadowbanned, the latter due to their sheer synergy with the entire Eevee family tree that imbalance would be put the cash cow in danger) are getting some kind of special treatment or a modernizing revamp via Regional Replacement.
The only ones who haven't yet gotten a cross-gen evolution, Mega, Z-Move, G-Max, Regional Variant or some other fluff and don't have a confirmed Mega from the L:Z-A leaks are
>Fearow, Arbok, Nidoqueen, Nidoking, Wigglytuff, Vileplume, Parasect, Venomoth, Golduck, Poliwrath, Tentacruel, Dodrio, Dewgong, Cloyster, Hypno, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Seaking, Omastar, Kabutops
That's a meager 20 Kanto mons left who haven't gotten anything special.

I'd say they count as much as regional forms since they're basically the same thing with a different name.
Anonymous No.58216101
>>58216047
Yeah, the "completely different species" is a loophole that doesn't really work. They are pokemon that are fundamentally riffing of the other one and only exist first and foremost as a mirror twist to it
