I don’t get why they made Blue’s ace Pidgeot. They just randomly made it his highest level Pokemon in HGSS when it was his 2nd lowest leveled one and the Pokemon he lead with in GSC.

Does it matter?
We'll never see them with those Pokemon, except maybe in Masters (if they plan to upgrade Lance's Dragonite) but that's a totally different Battle system.

Champions have been pretty much proven to focus on Multiplayer solely, so we're not seeing any past NPCs there.
And even if we do get some PWT-like treat in a future core game (which is more than unlikely, we can't have nice stuff anymore), it'll be without Megas because they're going away after ZA (with Champions serving as a container for past gimmicks until it EoS-es).

Goated bully rival, even cucks you out of the pokemon league championship after you thought you finished the E4. He does everything before you. I do wish he was marketed with Charizard while Red had Venusaur. Just seemed more “right” considering the dynamic. I don’t know who decided in the last second that Pidgeot should be his ace over one of the starters or Eevee/an eeveelution but they should be slapped hard for their crimes.

Lance should have been replaced with Clair. He was already beaten in the first game. Did we really need him a second time?
I wish I had time travel because Iris is everything they wanted Clair to be.
I hate Dragonite with a passion. I have hated Dragonite for 27 years. I do not know why Atsuko Nishida could not finish the line and it had to end in an ugly fat orange Barney pokemon.

Garchomp has always been a design that I thought tried so hard to be cool it rolled over to dumb. She is a walking Umbreon Gijinka and that should be her Ace.

Is Pidgeot even considered a weak Pokemon in universe? Sure it wasn't his ace in gen 1 but he still used it as champion out of the 40+ Pokemon he claims he caught. And if that was his intention then they kinda dropped the ball by him not bringing Pidgeot to the PWT when they let Red have Pikachu.

Gary's fire/water/grass core is intended to be the replacement for his starter, which would be his ace in the red/blue games. Since there isn't a canon starter, he just uses his replacements in GSC, and since they're stand ins for starters, they must all be measured equally in importance. So he can't arbitrarily pick one as his ace. That only leaves Pidgeot, Rhydon, and Alakazam. Alakazam and Rhydon are Sabrina and Giovannis aces, which leaves only Pidgeot. I like it. It's the first pokemon he ever caught, so him being sentimental about it is nice.

I used to care back in Gen 6 and 7 when some champions had Megas and some not.

Nowadays I just go back to PWT where everyone is on equal ground.
