I actually think most pokemon designs are quite good and pretty far ahead of most other monster collector games especially considering the sheer amount of pokemon. I like a lot of pokemon from each gen, however I do prefer the design philosophy of some gens more than others such as gens 1, 2, 4, 6, 7 and 9.

I think James Turner is a weird freak who kept trying to put fetish mons in pokemon though and I'm glad he's gone. Gen 8 dex kind of gives me the ick compared to the rest even if theres still a few mons i like.

You may not like it but Gen 8 has a lot of very popular mons, like Dragapult, Toxtricity, Appletun, Corviknight, Hatterene, Grimmsnarl, Centiskorch...Cinderace is also very popular, and contrary to popular belief, Inteleon itself is also somewhat popular because it was Top 10 in the 2020 vote. There are also some pokemon loved by normies like Wooloo, Snom and Alcremie.
When /vp/edos say "I hate the Gen 8 dex", they only think about Stonjourner, Eiscue and the starter they hate.

i just dont like mr ryme, inteleon line and obstagoon. going over the gen 8 dex again theres actually more mons i like than dislike, which confirms my original thesis of most pokemon being good

Pokémon has the benefit of brand loyalty, so people are going to get more exposed to the monsters and have more time for them to grow on you. That said I do think Pokémon is good at its niche, which is as wide an appeal as possible. But I also think several other monster collector games excel at their own niches but are never given the time of day to take root.
