The anime not only had (fake) giant Pokemon, and occasionally real giant Pokemon, but also (not fake???) human shrinking with the Sabrina episode. And that was just in the first season. If you count later seasons, there's more shrinking episodes, and there's dynamax episodes. Not sure how many giant Pokemon episodes there are outside of season 1 (and excluding dynamax). The way I'd structure a growth is the following
- Cause of growth (growth ray, potion, weird gene that only just now activates etc.)
- Starting off slow and almost unnoticed
- Growth accelerates, now it's noticable.
- Larger burst of growth almost filling up room
- Final burst outgrowing the house
- Bystanders freaking out, individual who grew being confused, unless growing was their mission.

But they don't, so they're not comfortable with it.
So to meet half-way, they take the human form, and add some dressings on top to kinda make it themed like the animal they're going for, while still being a human.
Bonus points if they then refer to their creation as if it were that animal without acknowledging that it is anthro (poisoning searches in the process).
