What could modern tech do with regards to a mega design the 3ds couldn't? We had animated textures, floating particles, even high poly counts in the gen 6 and 7 games. Only thing I could figure wouls be something with so much detail that you needed the higher resolution display to see but I can't see that even truly mattering.

this was always what megas were, it was the main line of defense for them before ZA was even in the picture, ZA has just executed on the concept better than a lot of the original ones did. the difference (besides 12 years of series growth) is that there were a handful of the original bunch that were seemingly designed with no clear goal in mind, whereas this time - at least as far as we've been shown - the designs are all as focused as they should be.
