The last OPic of the general caused some problems for certain regular anons and they just stopped posting.
Anons of previous threads created the pic for the last thread and there was a consensus to use the pic as the OP for 9/11 or close to the day.
Apparently not many, if not no one, spoke out against it and the general slowed down to a week instead of the usual 2-4 days it takes to reach the pic or post limit.
Doesn't help that the day before someone significant in the political sphere got killed live and brought the mood down further.
Lesson: Anons don't want politics outside of /pol/, post more Mays instead.

So is Littleroot one of those "is small because it's a game" or is this really just houses made to accompany Birch's lab? The anime feels like it doesn't even try to capture the same feeling unlike it did with pallet town. it sorta makes more sense to me if May's a small town bumpkin.

Wow anime Littleroot looks ironically huge. Pokespe Littleroot houses are literal log houses, with two storeys and a balcony, the town's supposed to be rural. Birch's lab in the manga is also a log cabin. There's also how manga Birch spends more time outdoors than indoors, just like Sapphire does.

A big part of Sapphire's identity is also being a a country bumpkin taken to the extreme, so even when she's not Tarzan roleplaying in of Route 101's jungle, the hometown where she was born (Littleroot) is still considered rural. Ruby is the opposite where he's from a foreign city, but has also moved around a lot in general, making it hard for him to settle down in one place or commit to anything long term. This difference creates one of Ruby and Sapphire's biggest ideological conflicts. But it typically gets resolved by Ruby deciding to follow Sapphire's lead, returning to the Littleroot Town he once tried to escape, all because he is now the #1 Sapphire simp and wants to be with her.

There's something funny about it being called littleroot town and having giant fucking trees right outside the main building.

Ruby and Sapphire's secret base cave is even cozier. The Seviper and Relicanth posters on the walls are references to prior events in their relationship (they saved each other from a Seviper and they later first teamed up over Sapphire's Relicanth), the Torchic/Mudkip Pokedolls are references to their starter Pokemon before evolution, and there are two chairs at the table because Ruby's down bad and probably wants to have dinner with Sapphire there or some shit.

The decorated secret base also happens to be a physical representation of Ruby's commitment to staying, since the cave is also on Route 101 which is basically just Littleroot's outskirts. It's the bookend to Ruby starting the story by running away from home, only to change his mind and return by the end, even making a brand new home to live in with his feral wife. For a character so inherently unstable on multiple levels, Ruby finding and choosing any form of stability is a big deal for him. Sapphire had basically only asked him to visit Littleroot one more time since he originally planned to leave Hoenn permanently, so Ruby suddenly deciding to move in is a quiet display of how gung-ho he is about staying.

On a broader thematic level, the secret base also represents one of the main heterosexual dynamics between Ruby and Sapphire (the primary motivation for most men to participate in civilized society is women). Ruby might be a Sapphire simp, but simp Ruby turned out to be the least shittiest least selfish version of himself, and he knows this. He also just likes being in her cave.

The depths of Ruby's deranged straightness for Sapphire is also a subversion of expectations, for anyone who thought he was gay just because he likes sewing and shit.

She wore a simple pale colored dress that slowly turned to rags over time. I think it was her choice not to get newer clothes, since before she got brain damaged, Birch would give her elaborate and likely expensive dresses. She just became more pragmatic as she learned survival skills.

Short skirts are easier to move around in anyway, it's why Sapphire's leaf outfits featured grass skirts and not grass pants. Spats are a more modesty oriented compromise but at least they're not that long, and are less likely to get caught on branches the way dresses/skirts might. Of course I think she just wants to be naked, at least when alone in the jungle since it'd be less hassle and is "more natural".

Tangent but while not all, many fanart attempts to put Sapphire in regular pants tend to be western propaganda, insisting that restricting Sapphire's usual range of movement and having her dress more like a man is the superior girlboss choice for her.
