Done. I've more or less finished everything on my todo list (unless there's something I forgot). I think I've got all the back sprites looking consistent except for FUCKING Alcremie, that one is going to need special attention in the future. I think I have worked out why the Battle Factory and only the battle factory was crashing 1 out of 10 times? It's hard to tell if I fixed it or if it's still there and my testing has just been improbably lucky. I've created the tower forms for some Pokemon so that they can have their hidden abilities in the tower. Finally, I've even changed the images for the male and female MCs to be BOYMC and GIRLMC so that you can swap them out with any other set of MC sprites you want without it changing Red or Leaf. For example, if you ripped the sprites yourself, you could change the MC to be from Gaia or Nameless. I could just drop it now, but I'm set on version 3 being the final one with the stolen assets, and since some people here really want the Snakewood stuff, I plan to make this the best possible build before it's gone.

I'll use the next 2 weeks to work on trainer battle intros since they are kinda fucked right now and have been low on the priorities. Also, does anyone have any requested pulgins or features for me to mess around with? No promises, but I'll take it under consideration. I'm also going to start looking for fakemon that are publicly available for use.

I played Tourmaline before up to the end of the second demo and it was great, having a blast with it again. Just beat a fight that was a borderline scripted loss before so I'm feeling pretty happy. The new Pokemon I've gotten from the new Wonder Trade feature helped a lot though, especially the Spaceworld Pinsir evo.

I just played Pokemon Transform and it was an absolute delight. It's more of a puzzle game (not very difficult) with an emphasis on the overworld which I rarely see hacks do. Extremely cute. You're a Ditto in the daycare and you've been tasked with finding an egg, but in order to navigate the world, you'll need to talk to other pokemon and transform into a few. It's only a little over an hour, but I did get stuck for a while, so here's a hint that I didn't realize immediately: certain sections may restrict which Pokeform you can be at a time, but during battles in those sections, you are free to "swap" out to any Pokeform

I started a run of RUTILE RUBY, probably my first romhack ever, like 4 years ago and am picking the save back up. I thought I got farther, but only got to the third gym. I chose ORAS cause I got to like the 7th gym back in the day in Emerald but never beat it and wanted to see the remake "enhancements". And this hack cause I liked the idea of a more challenging experience.

Anyone have experiences with it?

Are there any guides for resizing UI for higher resolutions in Essentials?

I played Star Sapphire a few years ago, which is the counter-part to Rutile Ruby. Very solid difficulty hack, among the creators of them I'd say Dio Vento tends to make the harder ones, even a random ace trainer in late-game could wipe you if you're not careful. I've leaned away from his hacks and back towards those of Drayano and Buffel Saft since I found I was missing a lot of the Pokemon buffs they tend to dish out. Lots of people don't like Pokemon changes, though, so they may prefer his hack for that.

Debating making a hack of Red that turns it into a sorta battles-only dealio by going from fight to fight with wild encounters, centers and marts between with a bunch of different difficulty and customization options. Y'alls thoughts on this?

Disagree. You can get some solid ones like Makyan Aromatisse and Makyan Mandibuzz. First one is quite tanky with a good typing and fun perish song strats. Second one is a status beast, able to burn and frostbite on demand and deal more damage with status. Milotic has great bulk and regen and Tyrantrum can be an offensive beast with strength or speed herb.
Makyan Carnivine was also surprisingly usable and I loved its design.

Fair that's something I enjoyed but I understand it's not for everyone. I had a lot of fun coming up with a team that synergized well and struck a balance between damage and survivability. The tribes mech also helps with this.

Thanks, don't mind if I do. I'm currently four badges into Pokemon Rejuvenation. Beat the 4th gym leader on the first try, and I have to say that the latest story arc was a definite step up in quality from the last three - more focused on a couple of characters and their problems, less focused on bizarre alternate universe shit and pretending a certain character is dead when she very obviously isn't. Or, for badge 2, rehashing a convoluted version of Reborn's Kiki/Cal/Victoria subplot. I do find it a bit weird that the evil team is finding all these random legendaries to commandeer - it makes them less special if you have "a Giratina" or "a Mewtwo" as random sub bosses.

Gameplay wise, though, everything is good - I traded some retarded kid a Phantump for an Aevian Litwick and bred discharge and clear smog onto it for damage and utility, respectively. Going to level it to 40 as I play through chapter 5 and see what else the game throws at me.

I see a potential in Tourmaline but it's buggy and the early wild mon distribution is too much Kanto desu.

So many Pokemon ROM hackers steal assets from Pokemon itself and then turn around and say that you can't use their stuff, or even worse when other people complain about it and they didn't make the "stolen" sprites in the first place. Personally, I'd use the Snakewood stuff and if Cutlerine asks you to remove it or if Pokecommunity admins refuse to host your hack, then remove it. Although on principle if Cutlerine told you to remove Snakewood stuff, I'd say "Ok, remove all official pokemon from your game first." I don't think Cutlerine gives a shit though. You could try asking him and get no response because usually people don't respond when asked questions about a 10+ year old hack because they probably don't log into their account after all that time and didn't leave new contact info. It just pisses me off when other admins say that you need the original ROM hacker's permission to edit something when the hacker never asked the devs permission to edit. Like publish your changes with credit to the OG but they have no ground to stand on if they complain about their stuff being used when they already used someone else's stuff without permission. And no, it doesn't matter if the stuff they used belongs to a big company or not.

Every time I see a hack that wants to remix existing mons (Fools Gold or Weird Type Fun for example) I always get really intrigued, but usually stop caring around the halfway mark.
Unsure why, I think it might be because these hacks typically don't do anything other than replace the Pokemon and still have you go through the same story beats.
Still having fun but I think I might stick with fakemon hacks after this, for whatever reason those hit a little harder.

We all do our part. I've forcefemmed several romhack devs, up to and including Drayano.

I beat the champ in Peridot, that was really fun. The Elite 4 felt very harrowing when you can only save your game at a PC.
The double element gyms were a great take, I especially liked the gauntlet feel of having to go through the whole gym in one go.
The somewhat spiraling nature of the region made backtracking and hopping around fairly simple. This was especially useful because I was a blind idiot and didn't get Fly until after the 8th gym. I had never double checked the snow town until I went back looking for pokedex completion, completely forgot about the girl there.
Mallarky carried me harder than I maybe should have let him but he's a beast. Swords dance and STAB return gets work done.
Snomad was definitely the coolest, I love the design and there's not a lot that could stand up to a nasty plotted ice beam/thunder punch combo, and its attack stat makes crunch hit fairly hard as well.
I kept my team to only new pokemon; Mandrabell, Ancor, and Concher were on for a while but eventually fell aside for Searion and Skelegon.
Nyanell was the only disappointing pokemon that I came across. Its stats didn't stand out anywhere, and at every turn there seemed to be a bug, fighting, or fairy type that made me have to switch out. Not to mention that Raiger and Snomad more than took care of the dark type needs for the team.
My team did have a nasty weakness to fighting and ground, thankfully Skelegon could switch into most fighting types safely (several Machamps near the end didn't seem to have any non-fighting attacks at all), but earthquake was always a worry. It's super effective against 5 of my pokemon and it felt like many physical pokemon had access to it, but once again Mallarky being able to safely switch into an earthquake saved my ass from having to change up the team composition.
Now I just have to finish the pokedex and figure out the secret areas that I passed by.
Great romhack, goes right into the "good shit" Gen 2 folder.

For the most part, I agree. People who steal from Pokemon shouldn't have a leg to stand on when their stuff is also stolen. Never the less, I want to have some legitimacy and for that I'll play by their rules. I don't intend to take the "ask for forgiveness approach, and honestly, the farther along the project gets, the harder it will be to remove stuff.

That being said, I've been reevaluating the trainer over world and battle sprites to see how many of them I "stole" and it turns out I was mostly stealing balloons on Free Balloon day. So far, I've only identified 4 trainers with spites that were made by someone who didn't explicitly say they were for public use. In all but one case, I know there are alternatives I can use.

That is an interesting point. but so long as credit is given, I would argue that is actually showing the fan creators more respect than they show Game Freak. I'm even considering adding a credits choice to every NPC at some point to do: Talk, Battle, Credits, and Credits will break the 4th wall and give credit to the over world and battle sprite artists. I had no idea what to do with that mon, honestly. It's strength would probably come from all the support moves it gets access to along with the base 110 speed, but that understandably isn't great for an ingame run.

Unfortunate" doesn't begin to describe this fangame, this game rewards brute force and nothing else, I am beyond convinced at this point. After getting completely tooled by level caps with my opponent having three times the level on me and refusing to be on level cap prior to the level cap raising, losing this way somehow felt even worse than I had thought possible. My preparation was superior, my play was superior, and I lost, so I don't see a reason to continue engaging in an activity where what is within my control is overwhelmingly outweighed by what is not.

The opponents having a few guaranteed levels over you really doesn't make that much of a difference imo, also I've been hitting the level cap pretty consistently myself, even avoiding some areas until getting the next badge to avoid lost exp later, I was doing lots of unnecessary switching against high exp. yielding foes early on to level faster, but since then haven't really needed to.
