Currently in the post game. Half of the team is pretty spot on, but I couldn't be bothered to catch Heracross, and already had Slowbro by the time you encounter Red Gyarados. Kept Togepi mostly for cinematic reasons. My personal autistic headcanons; Togekiss had comedic super strength even as a Togepi, Ampharos is very clingy, Slowbro has occasionally moments of genius between her stupidy

'WoofGold/MasterSilver' is the best QoL hack of HGSS I've played. Still requires HMs but otherwise fulfils what you're looking for with an ever so slight difficulty bump.

If you just want to play Johto and aren't bothered about playing HGSS specifically, 'Pokemon Heart and Soul' is a fantastic GBA remix of the region, and you don't need HMs.

Hi, >>58355945 here. This was a minimum exp run all the way to Red where Feraligatr was the only Pokemon who gained any exp. I used Sudowoodo in that forced double battle before Ecruteak to leech exp. I hit some random optional in Kanto, in which I let Feraligatr die and let Gyarados kill.

Anyway, Feraligatr is good for this run because it has an amazing offensive moveset along with Swords Dance. It made Red possible after leading Shuckie Encore. I believe Typhlosion could pull it off as well, but I cannot see Chikorita doing the same without some massive RNG manipulation, which isn't easy to do in gen 4. Any solo run is possible if you overlevel the fuck out of it, even with Magikarp.

Red would probably be the same but with SD, Return, and EQ, but I haven't done the calcs. Light Screen would be nice since I doubt Meganium can one shot everything even at +6.

I hate Slow growers like Heracross in Johto because there's not enough experience for them. In Kanto and Hoenn games you could have three of those and be at perfectly fine level at E4 with zero grinding, just fighting all the trainers and being conservative with fleeing from random battles.

I'm also giving Zap Cannon to aipom and EQ to sudowoodo, so my coverage is good already. I was thinking about the Battle Factory. Despite the Karenfagging the level 50 and open level groups in the Frontier sort of represent tiers.
