Zygarde saved him from "the weapon". Pokemon doesn't canonize versions outside of Platinum since DP had a massive plot hole in it so they stick to vague dialogue.

Cyrus saying he doesn't give a shit if you free the lake trio because he can't be stopped with him not enabling any security to stop you only for the lake trio to then stop him once he summons the cover legendary and acting surprised. Platinum fixed it by having him summon Dialga and Palkia and saying he didn't give a shit because the trio can only stop one dragon, not both.
So this whole game is justified by just tying up like three loose ends from XY without really expanding on them much further?
Maybe this would seem cooler if this was the first time Zygarde went giant mecha mode.

Whatever you want to call it, it's bad enough that it's the one time that Gamefreak goes out of their way to say a specific version is canon. Cynthia explicitly says in BW that Platinum happened and those anniversary shorts they made to hype Sun/Moon had Spear Piller depicted and Cyrus summons both dragons.
