In most games the rival is a fixed character or just the gender that you didn’t choose for your protagonist, this is the first there’s two separate designs. Hardly a surprise that people are disappointing that you can’t pair the same gender.

You’re technically not wrong out of context, but this is Pokemon. If we can get characters who are Gym leaders, Elite Four, NPC trainer classes, Professors and even a pseudo champion be permanently shirtless then I don’t think it’s really much to ask for that your protagonist be afforded the same opportunity.

Especially in games when they’re on the older side, at least do something like an open jacket if you don’t want any prudes to make a big fuss

Its not that the UK is appropriate for it, but the time and setting, going out into the wilds battling with giant Pokémon, with an emphasis on survival? We're going back even further in time than PLA.
