You can go look at the leaked development documents for earlier Gens and see how much of the "depth" made it into the games back then.
This won't be any different. The main audience of the games are 10 year old kids.

This is literally the same thing we saw in the freakleak last year with all the other games, this is just him chalking up the setting. it's not inherently deep. Look at Masuda's notes on Diamond/Pearl - https://tcrf.net/Development:Pok%C3%A9mon_Diamond_and_Pearl/Documents

This is why I loved Legends Arceus so much. It was a lot more down to earth and just simple. There was the cool lore but it there for you to seek out, it wasn't the main course. The main course was the adventure. Ohmori's games feel like the opposite.

Who the fuck is Ohmori kidding? It's Pokemon. This is the easiest, most babyish, most handholding series in gaming with some of the least "harsh" worldbuilding around.

I know these notes are usually just them generating vibes and stuff, but it really does just sound like Alola. Down to the base evolution Pokemon that evolves into the 2 box legends:
>"Past generations entrusted something to the future, we now receive that something and live on, entrusting it to the next generation"
>"Driven by that unseen force, people are propelled forward. People, nature, and Pokémon are connected."

BUT stuff like this is making me think this game's going to have an environmentalism theme which would be based, maybe our job is being a conservationist this time instead of going to PokeSchool(tm)
>"What kind of world can we leave for the next generation? Is the world we have now truly something we can entrust to the future?"
>"What kind of world can we leave for the next generation? And what should we pass on to them?"

Pokemon Champions feels like a contingency plan in case they ever decide to fully ditch the classic turn-based combat system for mainline games. Which, given how much they're rushing to get it out (the announcement trailer literally said they were still in early development or something to that effect), might be sooner than we expect.

If they were smart they'd have made one game for the Switch 2, polished the engine so it actually works, then just popped out DLC islands every six months for the system's entire eight year lifespan. Why reinvent the wheel and make a new engine every three years?

It really floors me that a developer as absolutely untalented and unprepared as Game Freak still choose, gen after gen, to go with these huge deep outlines for these games, knowing they never deliver in the end. Every new set of games has these writeups for what they’re “really about”, these themes that are supposed to be represented in the game, only for them to be released and they’re gigantic unfinished slogs with a dogshit story mixed with some attempts of deeper meaning. Why do they think they need to do this? Just make a simple adventure, enough with this past and future family shit. They are not the guys to do this
