Starmie was always my favorite pokémon and I was scared at the leak description but this is so good.
it's not just its legs that extend, it gainst a little "waist" before the legs start so it makes sense walking. I love it.

You really get the sense that they regret making the original megas too cool looking and this time around are following the ethos that pokemon designs always need to be kind of goofy. Sort of explains why they started treating megas as a mistake to be shoved away after X/Y. But basically all the new megas I've seen so far are this brand of intentionally silly so it seems like they imposed some hard rules on what megas are allowed to look like this time around. But anyway I was reliably told that the dumber a pokemon looks the more "truly pokemon" it is by the biggest blowhards on the internet so I have no room to argue against their overwhelming genius.

not op, nothing about whats appealing about starmie is in this design, Starmie has no face or means of expression and yet it's one of the best designs of the first gen because of how cool ,majestic and pretty it is.
theres no other mon that looks like it in gen 1. on top of that in early gens its praised for how useful it is because of its bolt beam coverage and wide movepool and great stats. all for minimal investment.
in modern games the only pokemon i can think of with a similiar appeal to Starmie is Glimmora, another pokemon with very little means of exression that is still a great design because of how beautiful its shapes are.

Hawlucha already looks amazing they didnt need to change much so they didnt and he looks great.
make a slightly more pristine looking starmie like they did for chandelure maybe give it a new color and a floating shooting star cape.

Probably not, and no because that's not any part of its DNA at all, where as tokosatsu starfish aliens IS a significant part of Starmies.

ALL megas do one of two things. More of the same (usually while incorporating aspects of lower evos), or take one overlooked aspect of the line and exaggerate it until it feels like its the new primary theme.

In starmies case, it's the latter.

To do something similar to Glimmora, you'd make it ooze super adhesive out of all of its crannies because it can stick to walls. Or turn into a laser cannon that looks suspiciously familiar to the ultimate weapon (it does shoot lasers) or maybe becomes a top (mortal spin signature move)
