Iwao trimmed all the unnecessary story. The story in USUM is better (Ultra Necrozma > Crazy Lusamine) and the Team Rainbow Rocket plot is also better in the final game, concentrating it to them taking over Aether Foundation, rather than them being on different islands and some literal who Giovanni wannabe taking over.

No. The story of SM is the story of Lusamine's family. I understand why that's controversial, since the game is a more traditional JRPG where the story centers around other characters, but the story loses a lot when you reduce her part.

It's not necessarily the idea Lusamine was reduced, it's more the context of her situation was reduced because USUM reskins SM scenes altogether with brand new dialogue to attempt to tie Necrozma into a plot it clearly wasn't written for. The redemption arc is a complete afterthought and it degrades the idea that Lusamine was ever in the wrong in the first place, which given Ohmori, was always the intent of the character and why people don't dislike the anime portrayal despite her not being a villain there

There had to be a better way to incorporate both. And tossing the planned Rainbow Rocket story for "Giovanni of an alternate dimension" just makes that whole story feel tacked on instead of the planned anniversary idea of trying to say Giovanni truly did have a change of heart in Gen I all for a super faggoty attempt at making effectively Tony Soprano the Gigahitler Final Boss of the franchise, completely nullifying his appeal

I can't fucking wait till we get legends ultraspace. We don't even need new forms, just give us like 40 ultrabeasts. They don't all have to be powerhouses, some can be the ultra space version of Bibarels and their prevos. You can even restrict the beast boost ability to only the current ones (in fact you should). Just make completely wild creature designs unlike any regular pokemon. Give us more than the glorified hallways to explore.

What content was cut? Honestly PLA seems like the most complete game aside from the two legendaries locked behind having a save of two previous games.

The bosses in USUM were pretty good.
"""New Areas""" like Pikachu Valley and Ultra City were way too small. Compared to Distortion World or Battle Frontier which were massive additions.
Narrative changes were kind of weird and soulless. Lillie and Lusamine resolve their broken mother-daughter relationship off screen lmao. It was better in the vanilla game. Also the dad comes back, and there's just no emotion when they find out that he's alive? The anime of all things rewrote this whole subplot.

Overall USUM is the weirdest "3rd Version", where they fixed a few things and left others still feeling unresolved. Unlike Platinum which consolidated DP into one game and expanded on the lore. I guess Iwao is more of a boss battle guy than a storyfag.
