The new megas are built off the philosophy of "the Pokémon but MORE", instead of "what's the next step for this pokemon". I feel like they were on the right track of "how do we make it bite better", but instead of giving it a natural adaptation, they gave it a gimmicky flesh hood jaw thing, then made its arms the lower jaws, which realistically would have a fraction of the power. I would have given it more robust arms so that it hold onto things it bites better, and a stronger tail so that it can swim faster

not really man, some of them sure but most are just a random x factor tossed in. Starmie becomes a tokusatsu reference. Feraligatr becomes a kamen rider reference. Skarmory has its talons accentuated specifically for some reason. Dragonite gets random fluff forehead wings. Clefable gets wings too, for some reason. Scolipede has its armor move to its neck for no discernable reason. I can see it with some, like meganium or excadrill or eelektross, but others just don't fit.

I feel like this idea could have been used on a whole different Pokémon that has weak jaws so it makes an imitation one to hunt prey, really wasted on Feraligatr.

Mega evolution is a fantastic concept and has some great designs even now in ZA despite the utter dogshit quality. It's amazing how even the worst Megas from the old batch in Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Manectric actually look alright compared to the horseshit we have now.

Several of the designs feel like they literally ran out of dev time and made something in the course of like two hours that was not only a lazy-ass design, but specifically ridiculously easy to model. Starmie: just stretch the legs. Pyroar: just make a shitty kanji with the pre-existing mane model rearranged and stretched. Skarmory: just stretch the talons. Scrafty is pretty much identical except for a hood.

What's supposed to be the concept behind mega evolutions?
in XY they seems to incline on the idea of genetic mutations (think of it like The Thing) given that the symbol is represented with a simplistic design of the ADN.
Then they shifted to making them look cool and now i don't get it, it's a mixed bag of giving them a cool aspect but some have weird themes of regression like dragonite and feraligatr including victreebel if that's not a reach. Raichu is also the worst offender next to feraligatr by not having an organic design, just glued some limbs and called it a day
