When it comes to overall popularity, Canari is way more popular in Japan. Technically, the absolute number of tweets that refer to Canari positively in English, are higher than even English posts that reference Jacinthe. (Must be because Canari shows up earlier in game) But Jacinthe has like five posts (if not more) expressing excitement over her design in English that has thousands, or even HUNDREDS of thousands of likes. Canari is an easier design to appreciate which I think is why she doesn't really do much for me (also the redundancy of her happening after a character like Iono). She feeds into the current design traits that zoomers like and are obsessed with more. Same with Gwynn, Japan really likes her too

But I really think it's a game position diff that's affecting them. Jacinthe being at the absolute ass end of the game means you actually gotta work to get to her and she has a much more oppressive personality than most of the other characters which will always result in a more populated Western fanbase than Eastern. But on the plus side unlike most of the other female champions, she actually has an outright cutesy design which I think is going to make her a lot more popular than the likes of Iris, Diantha or Geeta (sans Rika shipping). She's in a very good place because her competition in Z-A is not very strong in general. People are only talking about the same handful of characters and right now women only care about stepping on Corbeau

For me, Canari and Jacinthe are *roughly* on the same level design-wise. I don’t think Jacinthe’s design is perfect, even though I’d still rate it a an 8 or 9 out of ten, but I also feel the same way about Canari. I feel very iffy about Canari’s half mold green hair, and Pikachu tail shaped ears, it’s pretty garish to me. For the better, or the worse, she looks just like a super mass-appeal-catering flashy vtuber girl. And not even a vtuber that has fantastical lore that has nothing to do with being a streamer and will never be meaningful used in a cool story. Just a typical normal human vtuber characters that wears trendy clothes and has like 5 ultra saturated colors in their design. Canari does feel like a character I’ve seen a million times before, (and that includes her merely LIGHT brown skin tone), so she doesn’t generate a *special* kind of personal excitement in me. I like characters with brown skin in general, but I do prefer darker skin tones, which is rare to find outside of social media artists’ Original Characters. Also, certain character archetypes are depicted with dark skin (or just flat a racially black person) less frequently than other character types. It feels typical for Canari to be a light brown person (possibly just a naturally pale person with a tan), but novel for Jacinthe to be a black skinned oujo sama. If Canari was darker, I’d like her more. If Jacinthe was lighter? I think I’d actually like her less if she wasn’t at least as dark as Nessa, or Marina from Splatoon. The color contrast her design is built on is too low when you make her pale brown, and I flat out don’t think she looks good at all when you just make her a white woman

Jacinthe is going to suffer from being a late game encounter in a game where you'll meet like 5 other girls before her but I feel she'll retain a more modest popularity that continues beyond this game. Yeah I'm a fan of Nessa and made a lot of fancontent for her, she's one of the prettiest designs I've seen in pokemon. But sadly I can't even say she's my 2nd, 3rd, or 4th favorite brown girl, as her archetype isn't particularly standout (but good for mainstream appeal) and the game didn't really give much to do with her personality-wise.
My favorites are Raifort, Jacinthe, Olivia, and Phoebe and they all have interesting and endearing personalities/concepts that give me enough to autistically obsess over them.

She looks so bad in game, when I saw her, my first thought was that people would be shitting on her non-stop. Her extremely basic anime face that almost looks unfinished, her bright pink hair and clothes, contrasting in a bad way with her dark skin. It looks as if someone picked a random anime girl screenshot from some low budget moe anime from the 2000's, and used ms paint to switch the skin to brown.
I saw a white edit of her, and while she still looks extremely basic and bland, at least she doesn't look as uncanny.
