Why don't they just make another DS game
It's what everyone wants.

With how high prices are for Pokemon DS games on ebay it really seems like a sensible option

DS nostalgiafags are more obnoxious than Game Boy nostalgiafags ever were at this point

Surprised companies haven't been selling old consoles in limited runs these days. Easy way to bank off nostalgia and you don't even have to make new games for them. Already got a massive library, and for Nintendo they already have the rights to most of the highlights on their systems

They did this with the NES and SNES classic, and whatever the PSX one was called, and I thought they sold well. Why stop?

Because NSO does the same thing, but on a FAR lager scale. Can sell to scalpers, or can sell online to people and offer the emus for part of the deal. Unlike the mini consoles, its guaranteed everyone who downloads it will be a gamer of some description (as they're paying for online gameplay and actively choosing to download the emulator to their system).

The GBA games would sell like mad if they were priced well.
A lot of zoomers missed that generation but YouTube challenge videos and emulation have promoted them to everybody.
Plus with the millions of fake cartridges circulating online, a lot of people would love to buy officially.

You're missing out on Nintendo's greatest library of all time.
>Super Mario Odyssey
>BOTW / TOTK
>Metroid Dread
>Kirby and the Forgotten Land
>Xenoblade 2 / 3
>Splatoon 2 / 3
>Astral Chain
>Super Mario Bros. Wonder
>Bowser's Fury
>Astral Chain
>Pikmin 4
>Zelda; Echoes of Wisdom
>Fire Emblem: Three Houses
>Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
and more

Virtual console existed before that, and the classics still sold incredibly well. NSO didn't change that

Don't know anything about Astral Chain or Xenoblade, and don't personally care about Splatoon, but every other franchise you listed peaked long before the switch

The NES and SNES did, The Playstation one failed horribly with a smorgasboard of complaints and I'm betting that Nintendo had already run feasibility tests to see if releasing any further were viable and decided against it, given they'd come out after SNES mini to say they were done with the concept.
Anonymous No.58460753 [Report]

Oh yeah, and they sell the main draw of the retro consoles anyway - full-size era controllers that work with the new system to play the NSO games, if you so choose.

The PlayStation Classic failed because it had piss poor emulation & people don't have as much nostalgia for PlayStation as the internet wants you to believe.

Not Zelda
>"buh muh formulaic childhoods gaem"
Yeah? Unless it was Zelda I, Zelda II (my own entrance to the series) or LttP, it was formulaic derivative shite up until they pivoted from reception to the formula after Skyward Sword (tied for one of my favourite stories in a Zelda game with LA ST and the Switch games). There was nothing wrong with that game, but the series had reached a point where it needed to go open world (reviewers savaged the disjointed surface world) and it was a victim of being just unable to put it together on the system that was current.

And Nintendo had a run of consoles where they finished runner up (or worse) to Sony and Microsoft and people still expect Nintendo to piss away money continuing to make classic minis of consoles that were not received popularly or favourably during their era because Nintendo sold two that were and Sony tried the same trick. That's why I said the NSO does that job now - you pay for online, you're free to play whatever they have up (been grafting through Zelda II, need to finish that thing to say I've finally beaten it). No having to pay $100 a unit (or more), no buggering around cable-swapping in the era of smartphones removing the charging port. Got your console? Got your NES/SNES/N64/Camecube/Game Boy/GBA/possibly DS in the future.

You're just as bad as the genwunners who insisted only Red and Blue counted, because they grew out the brand when GS rolled around.

i didn't grow out of the brand after the DS era, it's just a widely recognized fact that the games took a shift when they went into 3D

BotW, which mechanically interesting, has less good actual level design than the first Zelda and is ultimately inferior to it. On the other hand, there are several good formulaic Zelda games well after the frankly awful Link to the Past (I thought it was shit even as a kid), even of the peaked with the GameBoy titles and Majora's Mask. Hell, BotW is infinitely worse than TotK at what is actually does well, it's a shame TotK re-uses so much of the mediocre map design. Maybe someday we'll get a really good game with a BotW formula, but honestly just remake the first game and you're 90% of the way there already.

You guys really think companies can produce old consoles out of thin hair? Oh yeah let me go backstage and go tell the oomp lumpas that the DS is back in business.
Console production is tied to contracts with third party factories that don't have the technology and machinery anymore, hell they can barely produce new consoles since we're constantly on chip shortage because the world is getting more and more fucked, same reason there's no mass producing gaming CRTs.

if you were 15 in 2018 then you were 8 by the time Gen 5 rolled around, most zoomers started on DS, as evidenced by it's roaring popularity here and in other forums

whats funny is that these prices are only so high in America.
A boxed copy of B2W2 or HGSS will run you $150+ here but not more than $50 in Nippon, I used a proxy to buy multiple cartridges and even though import fees were high I still saved tons.
Not really sure why these differences are so stark, are the Nipponese consoomers more hung up with the new games to care about the old? are the burgers nostalgia cattle who will never let go of their childhoods? Hard to say.

i suppose, and maybe its because the japanese buy pokemon like mad compared to their population size.
I don't speak Japanese though, but who really needs to be able to read the text in Pokemon games? particularly older ones I've already played.

and sell it for only $40 or less? Pokemon is a Quadruple AAAA franchise and deserves to charge at LEAST $100 USD plus tax!
Anonymous No.58461590 [Report]
>>58461528
Unironically they would just need to add some fancier lighting effects and make good sprites for whatever post Gen 5 pokemon they want to include and the general public would gladly pay $70 plus tax for it.
If people bought SV which looks like a Unity project and ran like AIDS they’ll gladly buy nostalgiabait stuff.

Yeah, I mean the Switch isn't exactly a replacement for them, and mobile phones are mostly just f2p gacha shit which is a different market, and younger people shouldn't even be getting into that. Kids are already too attached to their smartphones anyway.

They're basically trying to do next-gen game on a DS game budget
Anonymous No.58461823 [Report]
They really should, because the idea of the games was to have kids socialise by having them battle and trade like they would with trading cards, but with fun gadgets, and that kind of interaction is needed now more than ever as opposed to having kids on their phones watching Tiktok.

okay but unironically these are dropping soon.
ChaosPurple seems to just be FRLG in Gen 4 but I have no issue with that at all, Rose Gold is apparently not a full region but I imagine it'll be fun for however much it gives you.
