Which version of Ash was your favorite? Seems they slowly erased his personality as the series went on

DP or XY.

>OS
Rookie winging it. Has no clear vision of the finish line. Caught up in events far beyond his control.
>AG
More experienced, but still an underdog seeing the outer world.
>DP
Where his experience starts to hit its stride. His philosophy is personally challenged, he's selected by a legendary as its champion, and he makes it further than ever before with stronger mons and better strategies. His conquest was only stopped by a deus ex machina that never reappeared again, nor claimed the regional champion's throne either.
>BW
Baaaaaaad. An attempt to revert him back to his OS personality as part of BW's franchise soft reboot. Some episodes are completely unwatchable because of this, like the time he brought only one Pokemon to the Nimbasa Gym cause he thought it'd be a sweep, and Elesa just let him go back to the Pokemon Center mid-battle to get more Pokemon when his first fainted.
>XY
Removes a lot of his goofy moments in favor of strategy and sakuga battling. Peak shonen hero here. Couldn't be given a mega so got a unique pseudo-mega instead, one that could brutalize actual megas. It all came crashing down towards the end though cause status quo was god. The Kalos League finale was the beginning of the end.
>SM
Removed most of the serious strategy in favor of goofy sillyness because the franchise was jealous of Yokai Watch. Very harsh contrast with XY.
>JN
No strategy here, just fujo shipping as he abuses every gimmick in the series while running from place to place.

XY Ash is completely personalityless but people wank him anyway, so this personality excuse is useless

I had way more fun with BW Ash for actually being, a character instead of a boring "moves the ""plot"" forward" generic shonen archetype.

>peak
lmao, peak shonen heroes actually win their final confrontations.

For me, it's the one from the original series. Occasionally I'll go back and rewatch those seasons but maybe I should check out some of the later seasons as well.

>BW Ash
>Being a character

Kek. Ash hasn't truly been a character since AG. After that he's gone from the same old battle happy retard who likes to eat and occasionally snaps at his friends or does stupid shit. Actual Ash temporarily came back when Misty returned in Journey's but quickly reverted back to his same old tired and played out traits the next episode.

Original to DP Ash is the most consistent Ash, you can call them the same character because his character remain consistent till then. BW killed Ash's progress while XY killed his personality and SM series reshaped him into something else. Not to mention it felt like a new executive joined the anipoke team staring BW series and he had issues with Ash for overshadowing his OC.

XY is a fine enough continuation from DP. It feels natural from a battle standpoint and demeanor. He's the trainer he should be at that point with people looking up to him for once and quite frankly, I don't know what exactly was so stand out about his "personality" in DP. People were already getting tired of him at that point if you were around the forums then and were more interested in Dawn. Paul was even more interesting than Ash. He was at his most fun in OS to AG. After that he became samey (power of friendship, battle happy, stupid).
Anonymous No.58463935 [Report]
Best part about OS Ash that he has multiple characters traits written in a way that all of them feel natural. Sometime he is enthusiastic like Barry, sometimes he is level headed like Brock, sometime he is grumpy like Uruto and sometimes he is snarky like Drayton. All of traits written and handled in a way to make it look natural which is why OS Ash stand out so much/

Only the original one had an actual personality, then he lost his soul when digital animation took the anime industry.
Anonymous No.58463964 [Report]
If BW hadn't happened I think his development from AG > DP > XY wouldn't had seem as jarring as it is with BW in the mix. Just take examples from AG where he was impatient, rude, occasionally cocky and wanted to do HIS gym first before May's stuff. He would outright skip some of her contest to train. Then in DP, he would actually stick around to watch Dawn and in XY he was willing to put off one of his gym's and go of his way to support Serena first. There's development there, and while his lack of sass becoming more pronounced kinda sucked from an entertainment standpoint at least one could say he grew up a bit.

Only people that would say that are Alainfags pretending to be an Ashfag, the type who think Jin-woo is the prime standard for ideal protagonist. This is why you don't understand the importance of his consistent personality or his dynamic interactions with characters like Dawn, Paul and Barry. Because you never cared about a protagonist having fun personality and chemistry with all the character as long as he is some invincible protagonist that win most of the time and aura firms.

People never got tried of Ash's personality, they only got tried of the anime refusal to let him progress further even when he does everything right. XY and XY&Z made it several time worse by refusing to let him gain Mega evolution and let him win against his main rival of the series Alain which is something even other series let Ash accomplish.

>Kanto (OG)
Bratty, fun, a proper rising star.
>Johto
More kind, less fun.
>Hoenn
His original personality is almost gone at this point; more kind, more respectful. All of his companions are now butt lickers.
>Sinnoh
Same as Hoenn but more focused on action.
>Unova
Just like the games, they tried to emulate the formula, but Ash is gone, and now they have to appeal to a foreign audience.
>Kalos
Tryhard shonen nonsense; not much to say about this crap except it’s probably the least Ash like of them all they went for the 'serious mature' route but forgot he's still 10, so it was pure cringe.
>Alola
Crappy redesign; the anime turned into a comfy slice of life. Ash regains his childish attitude but becomes a caricature of himself.
>Galar
Nothing left but a blank slate of a character, they put him out of his misery with a garbage finale.

Question : Did you even watch AG series? Because I did and Ash was even grumpier than before on AG series. He also sprend majority of Hoenn being an overconfident idiot often jobbing to weaker trainer by being carried away. Not to mention Max was a freaking pain constantly looking down on everybody and took every opportunity to bash Ash.

Personality: Journey, but it depended a lot on which other character he interacted with. I like that he's a jerk with Misty, competitive with Iris, or a good friend with Korrina.

Design: Power of us, its design screams adventure and it's a plus to see him traveling alone like the protagonists of the games.
Anonymous No.58464089 [Report] >>58464106
I feel like Sinnoh was the only season written by someone who actually liked Pokemon. Ash actually trained his Pokemon and every single one had at least a little arc.

>his consistent personality or his dynamic interactions with characters like Dawn, Paul and Barry
>people weren't tired of his personality

No I'm just not a rose tinted DPfag. I actually followed the series forums back then. Don't try this revisionist history BS. People found his personality very boring then. And even saw the rare Ash/Dawn arguing scenes as tired retreads.

>Dawn
Rarely arguing while being highly supportive of each other. Showing he's still somewhat immature. And guess what, that is largely gone in XY because he's actually more mature from the former standpoint. Shipperfags jumped onto the hive five thing, which while a fun little interaction, didn't amount to anything beyond generic friendship. That comprised what...95% of their interactions.

>Barry
Both competitive with each other and raring to battle to the point they rush things. WOW. How different from how we've always see him.

>Paul
Having Ash question himself was nice and all. Paul consistently appearing made him entertaining to watch moreso than Ash himself. Ash questioning himself was nice. But wait, he immediately snapped out of his "depression" in less than an episode and went back to the same theme of the "power of love and friendship" ...which has been him forever, and carried over post DP as well.

You seem allergic to the idea that just because Ash stays 10, he can NEVER grow out of his flaws. He still displayed plenty of wacky and idiotic moments in XY. He just wasn't called out on them as much because he had a different rol e in that series. One which he SHOULD be at that point.

From BW onwards his personality changed to be whatever the fuck they wanted it to be for the current show. His huge personality change from BW to XY is crazy.

Alainfags still making up excuses after being exposed. I was on discussions thread on DP series and literally nobody was bored with Ash and Dawn. If anything the thread was even more hype than XY series Ash having an actual co-protagonist as his partner and a rival that actually push himself further.

>what, that is largely gone in XY because he's actually more mature from the former standpoint
Losing all his consistent character traits to become some prince charming that everybody simps over is not maturity.

>Both competitive with each other and raring to battle to the point they rush things. WOW. How different from how we've always see him.
Except Barry didn't saw Ash as a rival, he was more obsessed with Paul and saw Ash as a stepping stones to reach Paul's level.

>Ash questioning himself was nice. But wait, he immediately snapped out of his "depression" in less than an episode
Oh no , Ash was actually matured enough to understand his shortcomings and actually snap out of his depression on his own on DP series instead of being a weak pathetic loser who waits for his female companion to throw snowball at him to snap out of his depression.

You call it maturity ???

>You seem allergic to the idea that just because Ash stays 10, he can NEVER grow out of his flaws
By your logic every protagonist should lose their individuality and become blank husk of a characters like Jin-woo in name of maturity. You are no different than those tasteless DB fans that complain over Super & Daima because Goku acts like Goku and not like Superman.

Truth is you don't want protagonist, you want blank shell of characters that are invincible, hardly loses, has every characters kiss the very ground they walk and consistently needs aura farming and high budget visual to attract audience.
