Except Ash was created as an expy for Gen 1's Red and persisted through the series, taking the male MC's role in all series based on the games they did. That includes being the MC of XY while the skirt did the girly side-adventure shit that was irrelevant to the progression of XY (and didn't even exist, save in the tv advert as a means to implement an NPC with plot relevance into the tv advert).n Calem's the MC of XY, because it was Ash that went to the League at the end, just as the player defeats the E4 and Champion in the process of completing the game.

Most spinoff media heavily focus on Rei as the isekai protag, it'd be pretty delusional to say he isn't at this point I'd argue. Compared to B2W2 and most 3D games, but they still play coy about it because they don't want to give "definitive" answers which is why we never see protags show up in later games. We should remember that Z-A is a Lumiose City game. Not a Kalos game. So it wouldn't make sense for all the Kalos NPCs to suddenly happen to be in Lumiose City during the events of Legends Z-A.

That said, I still have some questions about people and facilities that were located in Lumiose City during the events of XY:

>Where is the Lumiose Gym? Why doesn't the biggest City in Kalos even have a Gym now?
>Where is the PR Videos studio? That was my favourite side content from XY.

I would appreciate if someone can answer those questions. Are there any in-universe reasons given?

You should probably remember that Lumiose is a major metropolitan area and the biggest city in Kalos. While I'm not surprised that characters like Ramos or Gurkinn don't appear, characters like Professor Sycamore, Diantha, or Clemont not appearing is egregious. I think you're also missing things like roller skates, O-powers, and the Gogoat Shuttle. Did you know that Mamoswine in Lumiose are popular models for a perfume company? They can't even be caught in the game. Even things like the Pokemon distributions make no sense to me: Pokemon from outside Lumiose are being called into the city, yet Pokemon from the routes directly outside of Lumiose(the ones that would be called in) are suspiciously absent. You should be able to catch Pokemon like Dudou and Skitty. Ultimately, the game doesn't care about representing Lumiose or Kalos, it utilized the location poorly, and it shows how everyone's assumptions of them using just Lumiose was a corner-cutting measure.
