the problem with that strategy is that cyrusing out basics for 1 point doesn't accomplish much when your 3-point mega is getting its face beat in, and it's actually hard for the thing to pull out and KO an ex mon for 2 points when it only does 100 damage.
obviously we don't know how things will shake out, but it's looking really really bad for poor ampharos.

I can't wait for the promo rerun to put every card into one pull so it's impossible to get anything you actually missed.

Does this mean Dusclops might actually be used for healing? Trading a point for 100+ damage heal sounds decent for megas.

i dunno, built-in energy disruption just for playing a basic is pretty nice. it's a dragon card so obviously you're going to run mantyke with pure psychic energy, so if you're stuck leading goomy you at least get to stall a turn and cuck an energy while you look for mantyke. that's a hell of a lot better than 20 damage. and yeah, it also disrupts babies which is pretty sizable into a lot of decks in the current meta that rely on that free early ramp.
goomy itself has a lot of good traits, which does make me worried about goodra. they'll probably overcompensate for goomy and it'll be shit.

all the zards i see these days use cleffa, it's the sauce that brought it back after sylveon zard died.
and any zard deck is going to get red carded if going first regardless, since even without cleffa you can only really put down two copies of charmander at most. in the vast majority of your games you're going to have 4 cards in hand and the other guy is gonna use red card if he has it. that's just a fact of life.

If there are 4 remaining mons in your deck, and two of them are copies of the card you're looking for, comm gives you a 50/50 shot at it. Two comms is still only 75% because you're putting another card you don't need into the deck with the first one. May gives you an 83.5% chance to pull that card since it draws 2 before you discard anything.
Lots of decks only run 6 or 7 mons in the first place, so it's really easy to get into a position where May hands you everything you need to win on a silver platter. I wouldn't say it's meta-defining, but it's going to be a significant boost to a fair amount of decks.

using her in a baby deck is kind of a waste. if you don't get them turn 1 you're probably not going to get the chance to use them unless you get leaf or something (barring a recycle deck like flareon ex), but you can't use her and leaf in the same turn.
sure you can then fetch them out of your deck and make way for better cards, but now you have to put them on the field or you're liable to get red carded for having a bunch of cards in your hand. and putting babies on the field when you don't intend to use them is a pretty bad play.

it does stack, but getting both online is pretty unlikely. besides, greninja contributes if your active already KOs their active, while aegislash does nothing in that situation. if they have a baby out front that you need to kill first, aegislash does nothing. but greninja can poke it down before you even attack, potentially forcing a double KO.
aegislash is only really going to be better than the frog in like a solgaleo deck or something, where your main attacker is a cheap tanky steel type and you can afford to dump energy into aegislash to kill oricorio where greninja wouldn't be able to get water energy.

How many sets in this new series do you reckon before they add in some way to retcon the mega 'penalty'?

Got my first god pack after obtaining 6500+ cards.

Ive started playing for some ungodly reason. Actually the most fun I've had with a trading card game client but that's like declaring something the best retard.
Got lucky, climbing into and beyond pokeball rank because Oricorio is a crutch I welcome while I pika blast everyone. I sadly have nothing else that's really able to get off the ground except maybe a double Greninja water deck but it has no survivability.

It probably wouldn't be too hard in theory for them to just detect which cards have a >10% play rate or something like that, and then ban/limit them from a certain queue. But I have zero faith in them to do anything while whales will keep swiping for their no-effort shit.

Need help. I made alts and rerolled so I could get Lusamine and Lillie for my main account. And kept logging in each day to open more deluxe packs for EX dupes and shinedust. Pic related are my 2 accounts' 2* cards.

Unfortunately I only have about 35k shine dust, and I think I will have 50k or close to the time the new set is out. So that's only enough for 2 trades (unless they give us a first anni gift with a shit load of dust or something). 25k on each is hard reserved for the Lusamine and Lillie, so I have to basically pick only one other FA to trade over and the rest will have to go and fuck themselves sadly.

But I don't know which ones to keep and trade over.

stage 1 and basic megas aren't really any stronger than currently existing stage 2 ex cards, and rampvally has generally been a coinflip matchup into shit like stokezard or solgaleo. it's far from a one-sided deal.
even if they're really strong when they do get online, stage 2 decks are inherently inconsistent and liable to just get run over early by silvally because they didn't pull their combo pieces, and mega blaziken doesn't have a mega torchic to change that. shit like pichuvally and zeravally can just end the game turn 3 before you even got the chance to evolve, and that's to say nothing of oricorio variants which dunk on every mega besides blaziken.
even if rampvally takes a dive, that just means electric vally decks will rise back up to take their place. i doubt the thing is going anywhere.

i would love to be wrong, but i'm being realistic here.
pinsir does 150 for 3 energy and it's a coinflip card so will is mandatory. you know who else is a grass type that does 150 for 3? alola egg. but that card is worth 1 point and has self-ramp.
mega absol is an early game mega, which is completely incongruent with the playstyle of mega cards. putting it out front immediately is suicidal because it does fuck all for damage and you're basically hoping to discard their cyrus immediately because if they don't draw it before you have to retreat absol you instantly lose. and you can't save it for endgame because, again, it does fuck all damage.
100 active damage + shitty bench chip is why mega lucario never saw any play, and ampharos is just that again but now worth 3 points.

now that you mention it, 30 targeted to the bench is honestly better than the random 20s ampharos has. lucario can at least guaranteed snipe a baby or other low hp target, it's total RNG for ampharos.
anyway, ampharos is a stage 2, it takes 3 energy, and it only does 100 to whatever's in front of it. 100 is a really bad number when the best card of the set so far has 210 HP. sure you can red, but blaziken can lillie. and even if you lillie ampharos, it's still going down in two turns to blaziken.
that aside, i just don't really know how you'd fit it into an electric deck. you need raikou ex to draw into ampharos, you need oricorio otherwise you lose to any fat stage 2, and you need pichu/zeraora to ramp for ampharos. you're not gonna have any space for trainers.

I don't think you need to "ramp for ampharos" and clog up the deck with that shit. Its a late game finisher that comes in and cleans up on a crippled bench and has enough HP to outlast most non-mega threats. Trying to force it into an aggro style isn't playing to its strengths.

But there are still another 200 or so unrevealed cards from this set that we can't factor into the equation yet. There's a good chance that some additional partners or support are in there. So I'll hold off on making any claims that ampharos is actually good or shit until we have the full set to consider.
