People complained about Iris for different reasons. She has it infinitely worse because the Ashnime completely nuked her appeal in the wider demographic and Game Freak hasn't even tried to redeem her in the slightest. Maybe they thought making her Champion in B2W2 would work but it didn't, especially since she's the first Champion in the series you don't really meet at an earlier point in the game. To this day Iris is either the second best Champion solely because she's not an actual dogshit character like Diantha or Geeta or isn't even a part of the argument in the first place

Imagine how much more annoying people would be if we got the design on the left. Earnest critique: Jacinthe already looks like a grandma when you make her pale, because of her white hair and vintage clothes, making her fat creates the same effect. And if they made her an extremely dark skinned fat black young woman, but with a raceless face, wearing pastel kawaii vintage clothes, who is basically a PSEUDO CHAMPION, antis would never shut up about her. You would think that maybe that wouldn’t happen because Ryme is already a fat black rapper lady, but I honestly think her stereotypical aesthetics, and lighter skin tone saves her from that fate.
