That being said, I don't see GF ever letting us change Pokeballs. Not just because it's niche, but it's one of those series conventions that would need a contextual in-universe reason to exist. Pokemon are tied to their ball, just like they're tied to their OT and OT nickname. It's not like a dog leash, it's more like a microchip. It becomes part of the Pokemon. Generally speaking, when a Pokemon is unbound from its ball, that Pokemon is released. It's symbolic, not something to swap around and accessorize with.

I read about pic related being a pretty lucky spot, went there after hours and hours of trying to get it in the (in)famous southwest bridge and got it under a minute. Obviously luck isn't a thing so you are still fighting the odds but this place is pretty comfortable to just run back and forth so I still encourage you to go there if you haven't yet

SwSh has 3DS quality assets, but far stronger art direction. Its use of colour is superb, there's this omnipresent red glow and chromatic aberration that invokes Eternatus and Max energy. The locked camera lets them create these great setpieces and vistas, and it has a good sense of scale.

Paldea doesn't have a strong visual identity outside of the crystal areas. Most of the game has a flat look, and there aren't many grand setpieces. Because everything is climbable, nothing feels insurmountable. Mountains, watch towers, even the school all feel small compared to locations in SwSh. Because the player is locked to the ground, SwSh is able to play with forced perspective and give us some really grand moments.

SV's visuals lack that cohesive vision that James Turner brought to SwSh. Technically SV is better, but art and fidelity are two different beasts.

Seconding the ZA Royales, worth getting a few lucky apriballs to catch those shinies you eventually catch. By the time I reached 1k battles I got 2 Love, 2 Friend, 1 Lure, 1 Moon and 1 Heavy.
Downside is that you basically have nothing left to do after getting the charm other than shiny hunting, the postgame sucks if you don't care about online.

Not really? You can play SV multiplayer with someone with the console's clock set in a different time, which means a different time in-game too and all players just adjust to the host's time. And if you are talking about wanting to pass time it could be decided by the host or just make it so all characters have to go to a bench at same time to pass time, after all if they are comunicating they can arrange something like that and if they aren't then they would stick together and as soon one gets into a bench the others would see and sit down too if they want to.

I gotta give it up to gamefreak for having completely different and unique glitches and methods for getting shinies in each game. It’s cool and keeps things fresh. If every game had horde encounters or radar with the exact same mechanics that would be boring. Similarly, if all the exploits were hitting one frame the same way, that’d be boring. Instead they change everything every game or two. Sos, radar, hordes, starting the rng at the same number in emerald, sun and moon loading, za afk, sandwiches, brilliant stuff, chain fishing. I’m sure a lot of work goes into making new systems like that.

The slots are divided by east/west. So you pull one from the grass side to fill a slot on that side twice, then pull from the other side to fill those. The specific empty slot thing doesn’t seem to matter, just that there is a blank slot on the side you’re pulling from.

If you can hear the pokemon it means it has been generated already, which means the bench can despawn it. If once you use the bench you hear it again then that means it spawns from that position. If you can use the bench to despawn and respawn the pokemon you can keep doing it until it's a shiny.

Reset, either by running away or benching until you have a melee attacker alpha, like Scrafty. Hopefully it’s the closest spawn to the east/grass side/right gate. Get its aggro and have it chase you towards the gate. The moment it drops aggro, turning to run back towards the tower, save then reset the game. Now the alpha’s home is where it was when you saved. Aggro it again, and repeat the previous step until its you’re at the gate. Exit, and it should do that thing where it tries to attack you through the barrier. Save again before it turns back again. Reset again. Drop a pin at the gate, then run ~60 meters Eastish, down the road (I go closer to 65, just to be sure. Important: you need to be able to see it standing at the gate, still. Save and reset again. Now, run back into 20. There should now be two alphas under the tower and the one at the gate that you pulled away. Save with all alphas loaded, then reset. This time, when you bench, there should be three active alpha spawns under the tower.
Repeat the whole thing until you have your desired slots filled. I’m not 100% sure, but I think the benches only activate the three spawns closest to the grass side Bulbasaur and Chikorita spawn, so I’m not sure how I got the back two, but maybe you only want to fill the first row.
When activating the spawns, via kiting alphas, the spawns are split between three on the west and three on the east. It seems like you cannot fill the west side with one pulled from the east. So filling the Charmander/Tepig side is a little harder than the grass side.
Pretty much what you’re doing is the shiny clone glitch but since you’re using non-shinies, it generates a new pokemon rather than pulling one that was saved because it was a shiny, and some how that causes the other spawns under the tower to activate.

Don’t use a shiny, though, because then it would just sit there as a clone and never get despawned by benches or fast traveling. Maybe you could push it out by having ten new shinies, but I haven’t tried that.
You will need to redo this every time you KO or catch one of the alphas.

Is it true every single pokemon spawn on the map has the capacity to roll as alpha?

I've been hunting Alpha Emolga near wild zone 3 for the better part of 8 day/night cycles, and since then i've seen mutliple alphas and shinys along the path getting to them, but never them.

I've also noticed that they're perched precariously in such a a way on the roof that a larger model might not make sense visually.

Am I just incredibly unlucky? Is there a chance certain slots are locked from generating alphas?

If it's catchable in a wild zone or sewer it is never Alpha with the exception of Larvitar and Goomy. Or if they have a preset Alpha like the monkeys and swirlix/spritzee City spawns are all either 0% chance at Alpha or 20%.
