Competitive Pokemon still pales in comparison to fighting games, FPS, basically anything that requires players to make more complex inputs under pressure than picking items from a menu, and I say this as someone who likes turn-based RPGs.

I didn't make the graphics an issue. Game Freak did that by removing the one true advantage Pokemon ever had over any other RPG, promising to make up for it by improving the graphics, and then still churning out the same old ugly slop, now for a higher price.
It's obvious that you're so addicted to this brand that you'll contort yourself to defend anything they do.

I haven't touched any of Game Freak's games since USUM because I have standards, and frankly, I should have stopped even earlier.
