The sound effects in this are fucking pathetic.

That's the one I grew up playing as a kid through Wii VC. Honestly those new characters are underwhelming, even Cammy who's only good for jerking off to because the SNES version lets you pause per frame.

For real, I used to pause the original SFII after leg sweeping Chun-Li and beat off

SFII's audio took a massive downgrade in the transition from the CPS1 games to the CPS2 games (Super/ST). Guile's speech is the worst offended, he went from sounding like a suitably manly man to sounding like a guy who just got kicked in the balls.

Is this about the SNES port specifically? I remember the home ports of this game causing a lot of drama.

They still do, with lots of scrubs claiming the Megadrive ports are better "because the Megadrive hardware is closer to the CPS1/2", which is technically true. However, the SNES ports have much more intact gameplay from the arcade, especially the port of SSF2, which is nearly arcade perfect from a gameplay point of view. It's actually closer to the arcade version of SSF2 than the PS1 versions of SSF2 and ST are to the arcade, in terms of gameplay.

That’s crazy. I remember EGM giving this game lukewarm reviews and Capcom threatened to pull ads. Supposedly they had an entire warehouse of unsold copies.

Super was the third god damned interation of Street Fighter on SNES. No fucking wonder they couldn't sell it. Look at the god damn low effort cover. Fuck Capcom.

That was because magazine reviewers were tired of talking about SF2 at the time, not because the game was bad. And because they were casualfag shitters for the most part.

This game compared to SF2 Turbo on SNES, was ass.

SF2 Turbo was fast and fluid.
SSF2 back to being slow as shit, wtf

That's why SSF2T is the best.
Anonymous No.11795524 [Report]
I still find them fun because it's Street Fighter 2 but The New Challengers and Super Turbo rub me the wrong way aesthetically compared to the previous versions and the high pitched voices def contributed to that

I thought it was just because of the Q-sound that Sound Blaster was pushing at the time. A lot of the Capcom arcade games proudly proclaimed that it featured Q-sound not only on boot-up splash screens but also prominently displayed on the cabinets as well. They really wanted to push that stereo sound to feel like a bubble of sound around you while playing the game.
